Press Release: HISTORY® announced today that it has picked up a 10 episode third season of the acclaimed drama series, Vikings. The renewal comes for the series created and written by Michael Hirst just four episodes into the second season. Six new episodes remain in the sophomore season, airing Thursdays at 10pm ET/PT, with the season finale scheduled for Thursday, May 1.

With season two of VIKINGS just around the corner (Thursday February 27th at 10PM to be exact), History was kind enough to pass along some brand new photos shedding some light on how Ragnar’s lady troubles could play out in season 2. Per History’s email, “Will Ragnar’s indiscretions with Lagertha threaten his marriage? Will Lagertha stay by her husbands’ side or leave him? In episode one airing on 2/27 Aslaug makes her way to Kattegat and brings with her a surprise that leaves Ragnar in a difficult predicament. Who will he choose? Hot on the heels of its successful first season and in celebration of its second season, History Channel hosted a star-studded party for its cast with featured sponsor the Wired Cafe at San Diego Comic-Con. With elaborate costumes, scenery and an authentic looking Seer stalking amongst the party goers, the party was wall to wall fun. There was a vast feast spread out in the middle and a nonstop flow of libations. With paparazzi circling around, it was fun to see who would be next accosted by the Seer or who would venture up in the bowls of the Viking ship for a quick photo or two. Press Release: New York, New York, April 5, 2013 – HISTORY has picked up VIKINGS, its first scripted drama series for a 10-episode second season, it was announced today by Dirk Hoogstra, EVP, Development and Programming for HISTORY. Created and written by Michael Hirst, the renewal comes just five episodes into the VIKINGS freshman season. Four new episodes remain in the current season airing Sundays at 10 p.m. with the season finale slated for Sunday, April 28 at 10 p.m.
VIKINGS continues to be the #1 new cable series in 2013 and has propelled HISTORY to #1 in cable in its Sunday 10-11 p.m. time period. Over the five weeks, the hit drama series averaged 5.0 million total viewers, 2.2 million Adults 25-54 and 1.9 Adults 18-49. This past Sunday, episode five delivered 4.7 million total viewers, 2.2 million Adults 25-54 and 1.7 million Adults 18-49. This was up 4% among total viewers and up 5% among Adults 25-54 from last week. [Read more...]
