The TV Addict’s Top 10 Television Shows of 2014

While they may not have been the year’s most critically acclaimed or the country’s most popular, each the following shows made this TV Addict’s Top 10 of 2014 for the simple reason that they left us jonesing another fix. You know those people who say “less is more?” Yeah, they’re totally wrong. As the following programs prove, too much is never enough.

MANHATTAN (WGNAmerica, CraveTV in Canada – Binge-watched)
WGN America’s second foray into scripted fare may have been about the development of a bomb, but the series itself was anything but [Thank you, thank you, we’ll be here all night! Remember to tip your waiters!] Flawlessly crafted and beautifully acted, the show’s story, set against America’s race to beat Germany to the development of the world’s first atomic bomb was an absolute joy to watch. So much so that knowing the end thanks to, umm… well, history books, didn’t detract in the least from this immensely compelling series. [Read more…]

Video Playlist: Top 10 ‘SNL’ Segments – Fall 2014

snl 40

Season 40 of “Saturday Night Live” has gotten off to a rather mediocre start. The hosts haven’t been a problem, but a lot of the writing has underwhelmed. It also says a lot about the state of “SNL” that most of the show’s most memorable bits this fall have been pre-taped, and the best sketch was cut at dress. The ratio of pre-taped bits to live sketches even has me changing the way I refer to any one particular clip, which for the purposes of this listicle, I’m referring to both pre-taped bits and live sketches as ‘segments’.

Without further ado, here are the 10 best segments from this fall’s episodes. [Read more…]

jane the virgin

It’s the end of 2014 so you will start to see many lists about the best and worst of television.  I love these lists (example A being that I’m writing one) but often times the lists include scenes or shows that were on the last television season.  So, in the interest of being different my list of the top 10 scenes of 2014 will only include scenes from the first half of the 2014 – 2015 network season (meaning anything before and including mid season finales are eligible).

The Top 10 TV Shows of 2014

Though each year presents itself with more misses than hits, television seems to get better and better. Narrowing down a list of 10 shows that represent the best a year had to offer is damn near impossible, not just because there are far more than 10 fantastic television shows, but because it’s absurd to think it’s possible for any one person to watch everything. Alas, here are my top 10 picks for 2014. Year in Review: Top 10 TV Shows of 2013

Like each year before, it is excruciatingly difficult picking out a Top 10 list of TV shows. In fact, it seemed that television critics everywhere found creative ways to go around the traditional Top 10 list. They broke down TV shows by categories: best new shows, best returning shows, best comedies, best dramas, best cable, best broadcast, or any other way they could carve out the television pie into smaller pieces. Then some just gave in and posted lists of their Top 20 or Top 30 shows of the year.

For 2013, the only downside to too much great TV is that a Top 10 list is virtually impossible to come up with.

So in trying to come up with our Top 10 lists at, we allowed each of the contributing staff the opportunity to come up with their own “Top TV” list this year. It seemed only fair since everyone has such diverse taste and criteria as to what makes it into their “Top” lists. [Read more…]
