Can Television Compete With the Holidays?
A funny thing happens this time of year, instead of television viewership increasing as viewers seek refuge from the cooler weather and the insanity of the holidays, television viewership actually declines. It is as if viewers go into their own form of hibernation – seeking solitude from the difficulties of their life-stressors, the holidays, and the pressure of television which inundates them with commercials showing them everything they cannot afford to buy for Christmas and all the fantastic things they cannot participate in – whether it its due to financial restrictions, time constraints, or a lack of a “significant other” to share in the holiday revelry.
Television programmers shudder a bit this time of year. It is a great time to secure last-minute profits in the form of advertising dollars as retailers and other businesses conduct their year-end push to lure in holiday shoppers. But it also a time when seemingly “bullet proof” television shows take significant hits in the loss of viewers. It may be a momentary blip on the ratings radar, or it may be a sign of eroding viewership. It is enough to give television programmers and showrunners a minor heart-attack at the sudden drop. Emily Rose, Colin Ferguson and Eddie McClintock Dish on the Upcoming Syfy Holiday Episodes of HAVEN, EUREKA and WAREHOUSE 13
Fans are in for a spectacular treat this year! In honor of the Christmas holiday, Syfy’s hottest shows whipped up a fun and fantastic episode just for the occasion. On HAVEN, the inhabitants of the supernaturally-afflicted town of Haven start believing that it is Christmas in July – leaving Audrey Parker to track down the “troubled” person virtually on her own as she is the only one who knows that it could not possibly be Christmas. Then on EUREKA, things take on a different look entirely as an adventure with a special storybook turns its inhabitants into all forms of animated cartoon and Claymation characters. It’s a wild ride of misadventures until everyone can figure out how to return to the non-animated world for their holiday celebrations. Then on WAREHOUSE 13, Pete steps in an alternate reality where he does not exist – or rather Pete Lattimer has not been born. It is adventure for him as he works to persuade the Warehouse 13 team that he is indeed a Warehouse agent and that an artifact must be behind his new reality.
In a recent conference call with press, stars Emily Rose from HAVEN, Colin Ferguson from EUREKA and Eddie McClintock from WAREHOUSE 13 shared a bit about these fun holiday episodes and what it was like living in these alternate holiday worlds. [Read more…]

We Preview Syfy’s Magical Mini-Series NEVERLAND
Everyone has grown up hearing the tale of “Peter Pan” – the story of a boy who-could-never-grow-old who invited a trio of children to join him in an extraordinary journey with pirates, Indians, a notorious Captain Hook, a blood-thirsty crocodile, and a fairy named Tinkerbell. Inviting viewers to venture back into this warm-hearted world, Syfy’s mini-series NEVERLAND is a prequel telling the story of how Peter became the boy-who-could-fly and the misadventures he first encountered in the magical land of Neverland.
In this tale, in the beginning, Peter (Charlie Rowe) is still just a boy roaming the streets of London with his fellow comrades under the watchful eye of his mentor Jimmy Hook (Rhys Ifans). But when a mysterious glowing orb is found, they are transported to the far corners of the universe to a world where amazing things are possible. Similarly caught by the power of the orb, also found in this new world are a tribe of Indians and crew of pirates who are at odds on who should control the fairy magic hidden within the forest.
Being the enterprising young men that they are, Peter and his mates befriend the Indians, while Jimmy Hook suffers a different fate, subjected to the seductive temptations of Captain Elizabeth Bonny (Anna Friel). With so many distractions and delicacies within reach is it any wonder that Jimmy Hook finds himself aligned with the pirates, while Peter and his crew discover that their loyalties lie with their newfound family in this remote corner of the universe?
