REIGN Post-Mortem: Showrunner Laurie McCarthy and Megan Follows Reflect on the Risky Season 1 Finale and Preview What’s Next in Season 2

Reign

Hot on the heels of its successful first season, REIGN went out in jaw-dropping style last week when it killed off the King of France (Alan Van Sprang). It also dared to lock the next king right out of the castle gates due to the looming threat of plague spreading through the local villages. So Season 2 of REIGN is going to be a tricky road as Mary (Adalaide Kane), Queen of Scots and now Queen of France may have to rule in her husband’s absence and keep her mother-in-law, Catherine de Medici (Megan Follows) at bay and also making a play for the throne.

As this week’s CBS Summer Soiree event, showrunner and executive producer Laurie McCarthy and star Megan Follows talked exclusively about the killer Season 1 finale and where the show may be heading in its upcoming second season. [Read more…]

ARROW Scoop: EP Marc Guggenheim Previews the Season 2 Finale and What Other Deaths Lie Ahead

Arrow2-e1366746033717

In last week’s episode “Streets of Fire,” Starling City was literally under siege by Slade Wilson’s (Manu Bennett) Mirakuru Army. The chaos and disorder was just the beginning. Anyone and everyone was a target. It did not matter who it was. The Mirakuru infected were no longer men with the ability to reason. They just murdered everyone who happened to be in their path. Starling City’s newest mayor Sebastian Blood (Kevin Alejandro) was not even safe as he took a sword to the chest by Ravager aka Isabel Rochev (Summer Glau) — as if we could even call her human anymore. The District Attorney was added to the body of the fallen before anyone could blink. Slade’s humanity is highly in doubt as he merely laughed with maniacal glee at the death and destruction his army was raining down upon the city that Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) held so dear.

As also seen, everyone of Oliver’s team and those who align with him are targets. Having already taken the life of Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson), Slade has vowed to take at least one more life — the second person Oliver holds most dear. Given that Slade had dispatched one of his nameless/faceless men to hunt down Thea Queen (Willa Holland) and another to the police precinct where Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and her father Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) were holed up, that only leaves two possible candidates of who is the person Oliver holds most dear: Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards). Just who will be the lucky lady? That is what everyone is holding their breaths over for this week’s momentous Season 2 finale.

In a recent exclusive interview, executive producer Marc Guggenheim talked about what tense alliances lie ahead in the finale and whether Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) will rise from the dead one last time to take a stand to protect his daughter, Thea. [Read more…]

ARROW Season Finale Previewpalooza: “Unthinkable” Sneak Peek!

AR223b_0027b.jpg-92ae47c9-t3

This just in, new episode photos and previews from the Wednesday May 14th second season finale of ARROW. Direct from The CW, “OLIVER MUST DECIDE ONCE AND FOR ALL IF HE’S A KILLER OR A HERO — Slade (Manu Bennett) moves forward with his plan to kill one more person in Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) life. While Oliver has fought all year to be more than the killer he once was, when Slade kidnaps someone close to Oliver’s heart, Oliver is pushed to the edge and realizes sometimes it takes doing the unthinkable to stop the monster. Meanwhile, Diggle (David Ramsey) takes on Amanda Waller (guest star Cynthia Addai-Robinson) with a little help from some friends, and Thea (Willa Holland) turns to Roy (Colton Haynes) in her time of need. John Behring directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti and teleplay by Marc Guggenheim & Andrew Kreisberg” [Read more…]

THE 100 Preview: “Day Trip” (Grounders, Gractavia and Ground Control!)

the 100 day trip

In last week’s episode “Contents Under Pressure” of THE 100 it is hard to say which resonated louder: the softly spoken “thank you” offered by the Grounder (Ricky Whittle) to Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos); or when Chancellor Jaha (Isaiah Washington) said that there were space pods to transport only 700 of the 2,200 people still alive on the Ark. If you thought it was brutal when the Ark had to cull out 320 of their population to give everyone enough oxygen to survive for a few more months, imagine how everyone is going to react to finding out only 700 get to make the trip to Earth.

So there are some big secrets still hanging in the air as the show picks up this week in “Day Trip.”

Given Octavia’s soft-spot for the Grounder who saved her life and who has proven he will do anything to save her, including betray his own people, there is surely going to be more going on with that budding friendship/relationship (now called “Gractavia”). Will Octavia be able to stand by and watch her brother torture a man who so obviously cares for her, or will she feel compelled to help him get free? And what does that mean for the formerly budding romance between Octavia and Jasper (Devon Bostick)? Jasper just may find himself alone as Octavia gives her heart to another. But having survived a Grounder attack himself, it is hard to imagine that Jasper will give up on the girl he loves any time soon.

Plus, just listen to what Devon Bostick had to say about Jasper and his deep love for Octavia in this interview: [Read more…]

ARROW Preview: “Streets of Fire” (Masks, Mirakuru, and Malcolm Merlyn, Oh My!)

unnamed-11

Ever since we found out that Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) was not only still alive, but that he is also Thea Queen’s (Willa Holland) father, we knew that Malcolm would one day return to Starling City to finish his mission to destroy the Glades and to claim what he thinks rightfully belongs to him — his daughter. Unfortunately for Thea, upon the death of Moira (Susanna Thompson), Malcolm now feels safe enough to return. Without Moira’s threat to unleash the League of Assassins on him, Malcolm returns and undoubtedly has another diabolical plan that he wants to spring upon everyone.

But will Malcolm stand and fight with Oliver against Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) to protect Thea or will Malcolm simply steal Thea from right under Slade and Oliver’s noses? And how will Roy (Colton Haynes) feel about Thea’s father resurrecting from his very richly deserved death and coming back to perhaps finish off the Glades, Roy’s home turf?

As if Oliver Queen did not have enough on his plate at the moment, having to face and deal with Malcolm Merlyn is the last thing he needs; unless Malcolm is sticking around to help out and fight against Slade Wilson and his Mirakuru army, Malcolm is one more problem to deal with another day.

But will Thea see it the same way? Maybe she is intrigued by the idea of getting to know her biological father. After all, she has not been privy to Malcolm’s extracurricular activities as the Dark Archer and all the times he and Oliver faced off. So maybe in her mind Malcolm is just the parental figure she needs right now. Though I suspect even if Thea were initially swayed by Malcolm’s charm, she would ultimately sense the one thing she cannot abide by – the lies. After listening to her own family’s lies for years, Thea is pretty finely attune to when someone is lying to her and it remains a hot button for her. Malcolm had better tread carefully or she might unleash all her pent-up rage and anger against him if she finds out he is also lying to her about anything. [Read more…]

ARROW Previewpalooza: “Streets of Fire” Sneak Peek! (AKA: The Return of Malcolm Merlyn)

arrow-season-2-poster-stephen-amell-399x600

This just in, new episode photos and previews from the Wednesday May 7th episode of ARROW. Direct from The CW, “MALCOLM MERLYN RETURNS — Oliver (Stephen Amell) rallies his team as Slade’s (Manu Bennett) soldiers attack the city. Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) gets a call from S.T.A.R. Labs with game-changing news and Thea (Willa Holland) comes face-to-face with her father – Malcolm Merlyn (guest star John Barrowman). Nick Copus directed the episode written by Jake Coburn & Ben Sokolowski”

Added executive producer Andrew Kreisberg at a recent press event, “All hell is going to break loose in the city, and Thea will find herself in a precarious predicament. She will be saved by her father. Malcolm is going to offer her what she doesn’t have anymore. That was part of our math with killing Moira. If we were going to send Thea in that direction, she needed to not have anything pulling her back — now that she has a brother who lied to her and has done something unforgivable and no mother. Then on the flip-side, she has Malcolm Merlyn saying: “I will never lie to you Thea.” [Read more…]

REIGN Post-mortem: Stars Adelaide Kane and Torrance Coombs and EPs Laurie McCarthy and Brad Silberling Preview the Season 1 Finale

72014

For its first season finale, REIGN is taking no prisoners. It will meet all of its mysteries and conflicts head on and try to answer as many as it can before leaving fans for summer hiatus. As seen in this week’s episode “Higher Ground,” Mary (Adelaide Kane) is no longer a young, tentative queen. She is a ferocious leader and she will stop at nothing to protect her country — including sanctioning the kidnapping of Queen Catherine (Megan Follows) in order to extort a ransom to help Mary’s mother in Scotland and the beheading of Catherine’s overbearing cousin. This is the new Mary, the one who no longer begs for assistance, but rather one who will take what she needs no matter what the price.

Also showing off a new inner strength is Francis (Toby Regbo). He may be the Dauphin of France, but he showed he was willing to set aside his royal cloaks and get in the trenches with his men, risking his own life to secure the position they need to turn the war and bring peace back to France.

With Mary and Francis demonstrating the lengths each will go to for their countries, it will be interesting to find out how easily they can be together as a married couple when neither will want to yield anymore.

In a recent press conference, stars Adelaide Kane and Torrance Coombs, as well as executive producers Laurie McCarthy and Brad Silberling talked about what is next for the royals, their court and their friends as the struggle between French and Scottish interests continues. [Read more…]

THE 100 Scoop: Stars Bob Morley, Ricky Whittle and EP Jason Rothenberg Talk What’s Upcoming With the Grounders and Project Exodus

72348

This week’s episode “Contents Under Pressure” was about saving Finn’s (Thomas McDonell) life, discovering the secrets of the Grounder, and the Ark’s plans to evacuate back to Earth — and none of these came without a price.

To save Finn’s life, Bellamy (Bob Morley) and Clarke (Eliza Taylor) had to embrace their darker natures sanctioning the torture of the Grounder (Ricky Whittle) — making them wonder what else they may have to comprise to survive in this deadly new world.

Also the Grounder was not about to give up himself or even his people for these aliens who just arrived — that is until Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) put her life on the line and then he was willing to do anything to save her, even giving up a secret he would normally die to protect.

Then on the Ark, all secrets were supposed to be revealed, but even Jaha (Isaiah Washington) and Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) could not face the survivors with the truth that only 700 lives would be saved in the last remaining drop ships to go to Earth, so they agreed to let Diana Sydney (Kate Vernon), a former Chancellor, have a seat back at the Council table.

In a recent press interview, stars Bob Morley, Ricky Whittle and executive producer Jason Rothenberg shared what is upcoming for the remaining 92 surviving kids on Earth, and those stuck up on the Ark, as well as what kind of threat the Grounders really pose to them all. [Read more…]
