“Last Call” Preview: A Closer Look at THE GOOD WIFE Following Last Sunday’s Shocker

ALICIAPHONE

The heartbreaking surprise of last week’s episode on THE GOOD WIFE was the sudden and shocking death of Will Gardner (Josh Charles). Due to the utmost secrecy of everyone involved, audiences everywhere gasped in unison and distress when Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) came across Will’s lifeless body, unattended in the hospital emergency room.

It should have been obvious that something devastating was about to happen as the gunshots rang out and the entire courthouse erupted. But as Kalinda and Diane (Christine Baranski) made their way towards the bloody courtroom, there was always a moment of hope that Will would survive, that the paramedics would reach him in time and save his life. After all, D.A. Finn Polmar (Matthew Goode) had pulled Will to safety.

But just like Kalinda and Diane, the audience was caught off guard and sat in silence as the horrifying reality set in. THE GOOD WIFE had dared to kill off one of its most beloved characters. It was small consolation as the producers and star Josh Charles all took to the internet and news shows to reassure devastated fans that it was Josh’s choice to leave the show and that his exit had been planned for nearly a year. Even harder to process and accept was learning that Josh chose to stay with the show in a directing capacity. [Read more…]

Year in Review: Top 10 TV Shows of 2013

Like each year before, it is excruciatingly difficult picking out a Top 10 list of TV shows. In fact, it seemed that television critics everywhere found creative ways to go around the traditional Top 10 list. They broke down TV shows by categories: best new shows, best returning shows, best comedies, best dramas, best cable, best broadcast, or any other way they could carve out the television pie into smaller pieces. Then some just gave in and posted lists of their Top 20 or Top 30 shows of the year.

For 2013, the only downside to too much great TV is that a Top 10 list is virtually impossible to come up with.

So in trying to come up with our Top 10 lists at TheTVaddict.com, we allowed each of the contributing staff the opportunity to come up with their own “Top TV” list this year. It seemed only fair since everyone has such diverse taste and criteria as to what makes it into their “Top” lists. [Read more…]

Carrie Preston Talks Getting the Giggles and Comparing Smoke Monsters With Her Husband and Co-Star Michael Emerson on PERSON OF INTEREST

Bringing romance to the drama series PERSON OF INTEREST, Carrie Preston and her real life husband Michael Emerson are lovebirds both on screen and off.  In fact, many would be surprised to find out that it was not Michael’s idea to bring Carrie onto the show; instead it was the producers who broached the idea of bringing Carrie in to portray Harold Finch’s love interest.  Naturally, both Carrie and Michael were delighted with this proposal; and so the epic love-story of Harold and Grace was brought to life – with the aid of The Machine, who clearly had matchmaking on the brain.  In a recent exclusive interview, Carrie shared what it is like working with her illustrious husband on PERSON OF INTEREST, as well as teasing a bit about the upcoming season of TRUE BLOOD. The Top 10 Television Shows of 2012

Top 10 lists are tricky things.  It can be absurdly hard to narrow down anything to a select group of ten.  It’s like being asked to choose your favorite child and you just want to wail, “But I love all of them!”   This is particularly true in television.  Each year I commit to nearly 100 television shows that air throughout the twelve-month period.  Thus, to pare down to the few that were truly outstanding, it can be exceptionally difficult.   But there are always a deserving few who manage to do the impossible:  sustaining a high caliber of performance and be equally captivating entertainment.  As a caveat, there will always be better shows, but sometimes those shows just didn’t manage to be as consistently entertaining. Addictiveness plays a large part of what makes television shows successful.  It is a quality that is rare and elusive and can be dependent upon the personal tastes of the viewer.   However, when you simply cannot wait to see what comes next, then you know there is something special about that show.

Accordingly, these were the Top 10 TV Shows that I found myself counting down the minutes and hours of each week anxiously awaiting the next episode: [Read more…]

The Good Son: We Delve into the Complex Life of Zach Florrick with GOOD WIFE Star Graham Phillips

When THE GOOD WIFE launched, it was largely focused on the literal trials and accompanying tribulations faced by Alicia Florrick in the wake of hubby Peter’s arrest. After all, right there in the title, it told us our attention should be focused on the wife. But as the show developed, the rest of Peter’s family was fleshed out and increasingly focused on, including the pair’s son, Zach. As a result, the troubled teen’s portrayer, Graham Phillips, has seen his own star rise. Already known in Broadway circles for his role in Thirteen and by movie lovers from Evan Almighty (opposite THE OFFICE’s Steve Carell, Phillips was probably better prepared to be thrust into the spotlight that comes with starring on a major hit series than was poor Zach. But to get the scoop on growing up Florrick, we went straight to the horse’s mouth for this exclusive chat! [Read more…]
