While it may not be the most ‘hip’, ‘trendy’, or ‘funny’ sitcom on the air – REBA still makes me laugh (seriously!). To be honest though, Reba herself isn’t the source of my laughter. As is the case with most sitcoms, it’s the sidekicks that steal the show. Barbara-Jean and Van are really really funny. Their impeccable comic timing and boundless energy is really what makes REBA tick. My point, and I do have one, is that CBS head-honcho Les Moonves isn’t a fan of the show. And while the show was already picked up by the WB for the new season, Les wants out of the deal. CW execs have stated behind closed doors that the show doesn’t attract a ‘desirable demographic’ (meaning, only country western fans watch the show).
At the time of this post, REBA hasn’t been officially cancelled. But a shocked cast and crew have been told to grab any job possible. The season finale, which now looks to be the series finale, has been edited to create that ‘series finale feel.’
