FOX Kills O.J.!

Claiming to have heard the voice of the American people, Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. chairman, has pulled the plug on FOX’s plan to air a special called “If I Did It” and pull publication of the book upon which it is based. Of course, skeptics might say question whether Murdoch was actually reacting to public sentiment or the folks heading up the network’s affiliates in light of the fact that at least a dozen had made it clear they would not air the special, scheduled to close out the all-important November sweeps period. “I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project,” said Murdoch in a statement which hit the streets shortly after trade publication Broadcasting & Cable ran a scathing editorial in which they urged Fox to cancel “this evil sweeps stunt.” The AP reports that the book had cracked Amazon.com’s top 20 list, although by the time news of the tome’s cancellation broke, it had fallen to 51st place.
