Oh, sure, it’s probably not a major surprise to anyone that ABC is bringing freshman hit UGLY BETTY back for a second season. But come on… did you really expect MEN IN TREES to get an EARLY pick up? We thought not. But yesterday, ABC took a lot of the suspsense out of the May upfronts by announcing that those shows — along with BROTHERS & SISTERS, GREY’S ANATOMY, LOST, BOSTON LEGAL, DANCING WITH THE STARS, EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and… wait, this can’t be right… THE BACHELOR? Seriously? Um, okay. Despite the fact that LEGAL and MEN – both of which have relatively small audiences – were renewed, the fate of the similarly-rated sophomore series WHAT ABOUT BRIAN is still up in the air. And while rumor has it that two other shows we find hard to believe are still airing – ACCORDING TO JIM and GEORGE LOPEZ– are likely to get renewed, so far, ABC hasn’t sent down word from on high about any of its lackluster 30-minute comedies.
