Breaking News: LOST Coming to an End

E! Online is reporting that ABC is set to announce that LOST will officially come to an end in two seasons.

While this news may come as a shock to fans of the show, LOST addicts should take solace in the fact that a five season arc is exactly what show-runners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff have been hoping for. In fact, on more than one occasion, the dynamic duo of writing have publicly stated that their plan for LOST calls for five seasons. Anything more would hurt the show’s credibility and story — transforming it from the masterpiece it currently is, to an X-FILES-like season nine mess (our words, not theirs).

Simply put, an end date for LOST is the best thing that could possibly happen to the show. It gives Lindeloff and Cuse an exact time frame in which to plan the two best possible seasons ever and ensure the show ends off on a high note — until the inevitable movie of course.

Frankly, if this story comes to fruition, ABC deserves serious credit for allowing LOST to continue as one of the most original and daring series on television. It’s not often that a television network chooses artistic integrity over money.
