Exclusive Interview: BONES Star Emily Deschanel

Emily Deschanel with the TV Addict at the recent FOX Fall Launch Party

The TV Addict: So let’s start off with the question on every fan’s mind. Booth. Brennan. Together. When’s it going to happen?

Emily Deschanel: [Laughing] I only know what they show me for the next episode. But I think Booth and Brennan are already getting closer this season and let’s just say that it’s been kind of alluded to me by the powers that be that something is going to happen this season.

When, I mean if, Booth and Brennan finally get together, what type of effect do you think it will have on the show? We all know what happend when Lois and Clark finally got together on SUPERMAN.

I think that if it happens, you have to get creative. Either find reasons why they get together, yet can’t be together. Or let something happen, where the characters don’t know how to react. The moment it becomes a standard television relationship, it gets boring.

I know the writers are very wary of the whole thing. The anticipation of the two characters together is part of what makes it interesting and fun to watch. There’s so much sexual tension and you don’t want to ruin that.

I have to say, I absolutely am in love with your sister [Zooey Deschanel]. Is a small part of you envious of all the different roles she gets to play?

I’m a little bit envious. But I’ve got to play some diverse characters in my life and hopefully when BONES ends I’ll get to continue doing so. We’re both very different actresses. But what she’s doing is so exciting, going from WEEDS, to TIN MAN…

She was hilarious on WEEDS.

That was such a great character for her to play, wasn’t it? It’s so exciting to see how many different roles she gets to do.

Does it ever concern you, starring on a hit show that you’ll be forever known as Brennan?

It’s definitely crossed my mind. But at the same time, it doesn’t get boring playing the same character over and over again. The writers do a great job of mixing things up so we get to different thing.

Like tonight’s Halloween episode?

Yeah, it’s our first Halloween episode and was so much fun to shoot. It’s great when our characters find themselves in totally different situations each and every week.

Don’t miss a special BONES Halloween, tonight at 8PM on FOX.
