Imagine for a moment that you woke up one morning only to discover that you had an inoperable brain aneurysm giving you the power to see the future. Would you stick to the status quo by continuing your work as a high-powered attorney that specializes in defending corporate behemoths? Or decide to make some serious life altering changes?
Luckily for us, San Francisco lawyer Eli Stone chose the latter. Setting off a spectacular series of events that quietly added up to last season’s most under-appreciated new series. Co-created by EVERWOOD’s Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, ELI STONE chronicles the ups [he’s a successful lawyer engaged to Natasha Henstridge!] and downs [he’s plagued with bizarre hallucinations!] of our titular hero as he begins to suspect that his George Michael inspired visions may be more than what they seem.
Over the course of the thirteen episode first season that gets exponentially more addictive, Eli Stone must juggle those like his acupuncturist [James Saito] who believe that he’s meant for something more. With his skeptical brother [Matt Letscher], his fiancee [Natasha Henstridge] not to mention his Wethersby, Posner & Klein bosses Jordan Wethersby [Victor Garber], Martin Posner [Tom Amandes], and Marci Klein [Katey Sagal] who would very much prefer Eli forget about his newly discovered conscience and return to the ways of “Old Eli,” putting corporate America first.
But thankfully, there’s no going back for Eli, who each and every week tries his best to make a difference regardless of who or what he has to face down. As Garber’s Jordan Wethersby so eloquently put it in the penultimate episode of the season, “Eli Stone reminds of us of the best parts of ourselves. Sappy and Idealistic? Guilty as charged. But ELI STONE offers up a welcome and much needed change from the usual crime-ridden legal procedural dramas that litter the airwaves. And frankly, in the somewhat depressing and tumultuous world we currently find ourselves living in, it’s awfully nice to wake up knowing that Eli Stone is doing his best to make a difference, live brave [an episode twelve highlight] and ensure that every man, woman and gay chimpanzee [trust me, you’ll get it when you see it] have someone looking out for them.
