Tonight’s TV Addictions: Thursday January 29, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
PRIVATE PRACTICE (10:02PM ABC)
Now that SWINGTOWN is officially dead (as opposed to all those months when it was unofficial dead), Grant Show is free to join the cast as Addison’s brother, Archer.

SUPERNATURAL (9PM CW, CityTV in Canada)
Think hell is tough? That’s nothing compared to high school, as Sam and Dean find out while investigating a series of murders at their alma mater. How can you not love an episode titled “After School Special?”

NEW & NOTABLE:
UGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, CityTV in Canada)
Endless reruns like this. Extended hiatus. Yeah, ABC isn’t trying too hard to kill off Betty and company.

SMALLVILLE (8PM CW)
Ever wonder how the economic recession is impacting LutherCorp? I mean, they have a heck of a lot of ”secret facilities”, all of which have to be major cash drains, right? Anyway, tonight, Tess breaks into one such facility and makes a shocking discovery while Clarke learns Lex is still be alive… and may be holding Lana captive. He also gets a bit of insight into Lana’s post-coma life.

AMERICAN IDOL (8PM FOX, CTV in Canada)
The bad news: Still more auditions. The good news: After this, it’s on to Hollywood week!

DRAGON’S DEN (8PM BBC America)
For those who miss AMERICAN INVENTOR — Anyone? Bueller? — comes this British outing in which would-be entrepreneurs try and sell a panel of rich folks on the marketability of their ideas.

HOW STUFF WORKS (8PM Discover)
Okay, tonight’s episode focuses on salt, which seems kinda unnecessary. I mean, who doesn’t know how salt works? Step one: sprinkle it on anything. Step two: eat. Step three: Yum!

KATH & KIM (8:30PM NBC, E! in Canada)
Stress pushes Kath to the breaking point, so Phil loans her his life coach (played by SNL’s Maya Rudolph).

GREY’S ANATOMY (9PM ABC)
Those of us who loved Erica will either be glad to see her in this rerun… or annoyed at the reminder of how badly she was treated.

HELL’S KITCHEN (9PM FOX)
The fifth season of this competition — which is more about who can survive foul-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay’s tirades than anything — kicks off. For an exclusive interview with Ji Cha, one of the 16 contestants competing for a chance to become executive chef of a restaurant within Atlantic City’s Borgata hotel (the closest thing AC has to Vegas), click here.

THE OFFICE (9PM NBC)
As much as we hate Michael-centric episodes (seriously, he is ruining this show!), we’ll admit to having loved his all-too-brief fling with Holly, who is featured in tonight’s rerun.

101 MORE THINGS REMOVED FROM THE HUMAN BODY (10PM The Learning Channel)
We suspect a lot of viewers will cringe and utter “Dude, that’s nasty!” as this show offers up details — and visuals — of… well, the title pretty much sums it up.

ELEVENTH HOUR (10PM CBS)
The team investigates a dead millionaire who, when told to have a heart, could have replied, “No thanks… I’ve already got two!”

THE BEAST (10PM A&E)
As Barker tires to bust a group of Romanian’s who deal in human-trafficking, Ellis befriends a hooker whose son was sold by the gang. Whatcha wanna bet she’s got a heart of gold?
