Tonight’s TV Addictions: Saturday January 31, 2009

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE (11:30PM NBC, Global in Canada)
Taking a break from over 202 plays on our iPhone, Jason Mraz stops by SNL with Steve Martin returning for his 15th time as host.

NEW & NOTABLE:
ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY (8PM ABC)
Like many Will Ferrell flicks, you’ll either love this or hate it. Oddly, I find this edited version a lot more palatable than the original.

CRUSOE (8PM ABC)
They’re calling this a “first-season finale”, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and call it a series finale.

SUPER BOWL’S GREATEST COMMERCIALS (8PM CBS)
For some of us, commercials are the best part of the big game. So it can’t be too surprising that someone was smart enough to package the best of the best like this. But the program does create a major dilemma for those of us who usually go to the bathroom during commercial breaks. I mean, the show is commercials buffeted by commercials!

FAB 5: THE TEXAS CHEERLEADER SCANDAL (9PM Lifetime)
A teacher takes on a bunch of rich, spoiled cheerleaders who don’t play by… what kind of rules? Why, their own of course! The only thing that could make this better is if it were based on a… no! This was ripped from the headlines? Get the popcorn, stat!

TREASURE HUNTER: KIRSTEN GUM (9PM Travel)
One of the focuses tonight is on searching for sea glass. Like the movie ANCHORMAN, people either love this pasttime or think it’s a huge waste of time. Me? I could spend all day strolling the beach looking for bits of trash polished to a shiny perfection by the push and pull of the ocean’s tides.

WYVERN (9PM Sci Fi)
Sarah Palin menaces an Alaskan town. I’m sorry, what’s that? Oh… my bad. It’s a dragon, not a would-be dragon lady!

48 HOURS (10PM CBS)
Two men. One woman. It’s not uncommon for love triangles such as the one examined tonight to end with someone dead. But it is> kinda unusuall for all three of them to wind up dead!

THE YONGE & THE RESTLESS (11PM SOAPnet)
Let’s face it: We didn’t care when Brad babbled endlessly about the Grugeon Reliquary, or when he became an instajew (complete with a baklava baking mama) or, well, about pretty much any of the stories he was saddled with over the past couple years. But in recent weeks, he’d finally gotten back his mojo. We loved Brad’s battle with Victor, not to mention the fact that he got the best of Phyllis (not an easy thing to do) with that whole “whoops, guess my cell phone was on and your hubby heard everything” move. So yeah, we’re gonna miss Brad — and his longtime portrayer, Don Diamont. But at least Brad gets to go out like a hero!
