Tonight’s TV Addictions: June 3, 2009

NEW & NOTABLE:
SMILE PINKI (7PM HBO)
Proving it’s not TV, it’s HBO is far more than a simple marketing slogan comes this uplifting Oscar®-winning doc that highlights two wide-eyed protagonists born with cleft lips in one of the poorest regions of rural India and follows them on a journey from isolation to acceptance.

CHOWDER (8PM Cartoon Network)
Why are we singling out a Cartoon network series of which we know absolutely nothing about? Turns out we’ll post anything that gives us an opportunity to reminisce about a classic SIMPSONS episode (“Say Chowda, Say it!”)

THE GOODE FAMILY (9PM ABC, CityTV in Canada)
Mike Judge, creator of underrated animated sitcom KING OF THE HILL, tries to play up liberal stereotypes with varying success in this comedy about a family struggling to figure out how to be as politically correct as possible. Strictly nonpartisan in its satire, THE GOODE FAMILY is very much a comedy of the Obama era, but too often goes for obvious and pointed jokes. It’ll be a miracle if ABC keeps it though June. Grade: C+ — Aleks Chan

LAW & ORDER (10PM NBC)
Apparently NBC didn’t get the memo about May Sweeps being over, as evidence by tonight’s June airing of the 19th LAW & ORDER season finale. Awkward.
