Fall Preview 09: COMMUNITY

You’ve seen the teasers. You’ve heard the hype. Now there’s only one thing you want to know: Which of the new fall shows are worth watching and which should be avoided at all costs? In this continuing series, we give you the scoop on some of the most highly-anticipated shows of the season. Which will be the next GREY’S ANATOMY… and which will be the new JOEY? Next up, in its quest to ensure Thursday night really is ‘Comedy Night Done Right,’ NBC goes back to school with COMMUNITY.

Why We’ll Watch: Joel McHale, Chevy Chase and THE DAILY SHOW’s John Oliver are just a few of the reasons why we can’t wait for school to start at the fictional Community College of Greendale. Other reasons include the brains behind COMMUNITY — who are none other than Dan Harmon (THE SARAH SILVERMAN PROGRAM) and directors Joe and Anthony Russo (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT) — all of whom not only get an ‘A’ for effort, but a ‘B’ for big laughs. Thanks in no small part to the hilarious group of underachieving students and faculty that they have assembled which McHale, Chase and Oliver aside feature two of the fall’s guaranteed break-out stars: The pop-culture obsessed Abed (played by the new ‘Jack McBrayer’, Danny Puddy) and The Hangover’s Ken Jeong, who recently signed on to play faculty member Professor Sénor Chang. If only Community College was this funny in real life.

What to Fast Forward Through: Umm… did you not just read that cast list? But if we have to pick something (We are after-all critics) the 80’s references could be scaled back just a bit.

Watch Live or DVR: With apologies in advance to FRINGE’s Walter Bishop and SUPERNATURAL’s Sam and Dean — all three of whom have provided us with their fair share of hilarious and quirky one-liners — this TV Addict will be signing up for back-to-back servings of NBC funny come fall courtesy of THE OFFICE and COMMUNITY. Must See TV, welcome home.
