Golden Globe Nominations (TV)

Best Television Series – Drama
MAD MEN
TRUE BLOOD
DEXTER
BIG LOVE
HOUSE

The TV Addict’s Take: Although we’ve been doing this long enough to realize that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) wasn’t about to take this one last opportunity to recognize four seasons of excellence on behalf of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA with a nomination, both FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and LOST could have easily taken the place of HOUSE (Been there, done that, got the T-shirt) and/or TRUE BLOOD (Guilty pleasure yes, Best television drama, not so much)

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama
Jon Hamm, MAD MEN
Hugh Laurie, HOUSE
Michael C. Hall, DEXTER
Simon Baker, THE MENTALIST
Bill Paxton, BIG LOVE

The TV Addict’s Take: Insert BREAKING BAD’s Bryan Cranston for THE MENTALIST’s Simon Baker and we’ll shut up.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama
Anna Paquin, TRUE BLOOD
Kyra Sedgwick, THE CLOSER
Julianna Marguilies, THE GOOD WIFE
Glenn Close, DAMAGES
January Jones, MAD MEN

The TV Addict’s Take: Based solely on her delivery of the line, “I’m Peggy Olson, and I want to smoke some Marijuana,” MAD MEN’s Elisabeth Moss was robbed.

Best Television Series – Comedy
30 ROCK
THE OFFICE
GLEE
MODERN FAMILY
ENTOURAGE

The TV Addict’s Take: A nomination for ENTOURAGE doesn’t do much to salvage what little credibility the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has left. Particularly when PARKS AND RECREATION, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, THE BIG BANG THEORY and WEEDS are left waiting in the wings.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy
Tina Fey, 30 ROCK
Edie Falco, NURSE JACKIE
Toni Collette, THE UNITED STATES OF TARA
Lea Michele, GLEE
Courteney Cox, COUGAR TOWN

The TV Addict’s Take: Proof positive that nothing says comedy like getting multiple slushies thrown in your face comes a much deserved nomination for Hollywood “It” Girl Lea Michele. And yes, the whole singing, dancing, acting triple-threat thing probably played a part as well.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy
Alec Baldwin, 30 ROCK
Steve Carell, THE OFFICE
David Duchovny, CALIFORNICATION
Matthew Morrison, GLEE
Thomas Jane, HUNG

The TV Addict’s Take: With apologies in advance for raining on GLEE’s parade, there was very little funny to be found in song-and-dance-man Matthew Morrison’s performance on GLEE. Aside that is from the fact that it took him a good six months to realize his wife was pregnant!

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Jeremy Piven, ENTOURAGE
Neil Patrick Harris, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
William Hurt, DAMAGES
John Lithgow, DEXTER
Michael Emerson, LOST

The TV Addict’s Take: There should be laws against making voters choose between Neil Patrick Harris (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER), John Lithgow (DEXTER) and Michael Emerson (LOST). We’re just sayin’

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Jane Lynch, GLEE
Rose Byrne, DAMAGES
Janet McTeer, INTO THE STORM
Jane Adams, HUNG
Chloe Sevigny, BIG LOVE

The TV Addict’s Take: With all due respect to BIG LOVE’s Chloe Sevigny (who, we’re not gonna lie, scares the bejesus out of us) Jane Lynch FTW!

Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
GREY GARDENS
GEORGIA O’KEEFFE
INTO THE STORM
LITTLE DORRIT
TAKING CHANCE

Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television
Drew Barrymore, GREY GARDENS
Jessica Lange, GREY GARDENS
Sigourney Weaver, PRAYERS FOR BOBBY
Anna Paquin, THE COURAGEOUS HEART OF IRENA SENDLER
Joan Allen, GEORGIA O’KEEFFE

Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television
Kenneth Branagh, WALLANDER
Brendan Gleeson, INTO THE STORM
Kevin Bacon, TAKING CHANCE
Chiwetel Ejiofor, ENDGAME
Jeremy Irons, GEORGIA O’KEEFFE
