As the he said/she said surrounding the scandal which unfolded on Monday night’s THE BACHELOR continues to play out, one can’t help but wonder exactly how much of this was contrived by ABC who had to know going in that while Jake is hot as hell, he’s also dull as dishwater.
The problem with the claim that contestant Rozlyn Papa had an “inappropriate relationship” with a producer is that it’s wildly hypocritical of the show. How can her actions — which so far seem to consist of nuzzling, canoodling and perhaps making out (all of which the oh-so-melodramatic New York Post classified as her “crimes”) — be any worse than those of Jake, who is wooing more than a dozen women at the same time? Why does he get to make out with impunity while she gets the kiss off?
Even if — and this is a big leap — Papa actually went so far as to sleep with the since-fired producer, how does that in any way, shape or form violate the spirit of a show which features romantic “overnight” dates on which the bachelor or bachelorette supposedly searching for “love” is clearly shown to be having what the series itself seems to be calling “inappropriate relations.”
It’s telling that in interview after interview, host Chris Harrison says things like “I can not make it any clearer” while refusing to actually give details of the alleged relationship. In other words, he could make it much, much clearer. But then ABC would have to admit that they basically made a mountain out of a molehill in order to drum up interest in a show that has become a parody of itself.
