Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse Tease The Final Season of LOST (What To Expect When You’re Expecting, Answers!)

You don’t know jack, yet.

That in a nutshell is the message co-creator Damon Lindelof would like to get across to fans on the eve of the sixth and final LOST season premiere.

“Starting with the season premiere, the remaining clues necessary to figure out where we’re going to end the show are going to begin falling into place,” promised Lindeloff at the recent Television Critics Association Press Tour. “My hope is certainly by the time the finale airs, plenty of people who have been thinking about the ending will feel enormously gratified that they guessed it right.”

In other words, assuming of course you haven’t already watched tomorrow night’s season opener that has already found its way online — the games begin tomorrow night — when the show that has captivated millions finally begins to pay off five seasons of hatches, donkey wheels, and four-toed statues that have had fans pulling their hair out in frustration for years.

“Yes, there was a time when there were 23 million people were watching LOST and that time has past,” reflected Lindelof on the show’s penchant for hemorrhaging viewers frustrated over the lack of answers. “Every time the show took a risk and declared itself more overtly there were people who were saying, ‘I wasn’t watching a show about time travel!’ But we have to tell the story that we’re committed to and hopefully the audience will stick with us.”

And stick with it we have. Which naturally begs the question, just how many answers can we expect when the sixth and final season premiere unspools tomorrow night?

“Obviously not every question is going to be answered and, some people are going to be upset that those particular questions don’t get resolved,” added co-executive producer Carlton Cuse. “We really embrace this notion that there’s a fundamental sort of sense of mystery that we all have in our lives, and certainly that is a huge part of the lives of these characters, and to sort of demystify that by trying to literally explain everything down to the last little sort of metachlorian of it all would be a mistake in our view.  So I think fans can expect a kind of healthy cocktail of answers, mystery, good character resolutions and some surprises.”
