Your UpFront Update: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

The Good: Rather than face the wrath of a legion of very angry TV Addicts, the CW, as we expected, renewed both LIFE UNEXPECTED and ONE TREE HILL for a second and eighth season respectively. And while there’s no official word on just how many episodes we’re getting, we imagine the consensus among fans is any being better than none! Also joining the CW this fall will be the much-anticipated NIKITA reboot (starring Mission Impossible III’s Maggie Q in the titular role as top secret government agency spy) and the Tom Welling produced HELLCATS, a coming-of-age drama about a pre-law student (Aly Michalka) whose world is turned upside-down when she loses her scholarship and has to join the college’s competitive cheerleading squad.

The Bad: Not so lucky was one of television’s funniest and under appreciated comedies THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE, which after five seasons of continually delivering the funny (with astoundingly little promotion) was unceremoniously dumped by CBS, bringing us to…

The Ugly: Which was the massacre at the hands of CBS executives who didn’t just bring down the axe on one or two shows, but seven! Joining Christine in the unemployment line to make room for a CRIMINAL MINDS spinoff (groan!) and Charlie Sheen’s 48 million dollar per year salary (double groan!) are the talented casts of GHOST WHISPERER, GARY UNMARRIED, COLD CASE, MIAMI MEDICAL, ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE and NUMB3RS.
