When the most entertaining aspect of last night’s heavily-hyped Brittany/Britney episode of GLEE involved Guidance Counsellor Emma Pillsbury’s replenishing her always laugh-out-loud pamphlets (Topics included: “Proper wiping Easy as 1-2-3,” “I still breastfeed… but how old is too old?” and “WOW! There’s hair down there.” ) you know you’re in for a long night. Suffice to say, we’re not a slave 4 Britney Spears. Which unfortunately for GLEE, is the crux of the problem.
The show itself has become (or let’s face it, has always been) the TV equivalent of an iTunes playlists, where ones enjoyment of an episode is entirely derived by how much you relish the week’s song selections. Thus, despite Heather Morris’ “Brittany S. Pierce” getting her much-deserved moment in the spotlight, some fantastically over-the-top production numbers, and enough “quotable quotables” to fill a months worth of “Your Favorite TV Quotes of the Week,” we for one found ourselves wishing we could press the “skip” button throughout the majority of the 44 minute music montage.
