Your Ultimate Guide to the Best of Web: Comedy

Most people would agree COMMUNITY and MODERN FAMILY are funny. But Web series bring a fresh perspective and raw edge to entertainment in a way that’s more personal than TV could ever be. Comedy, in particular, is perfectly crafted for the Web. You don’t need a huge budget to make good comedy, all you need is an amazing sense of humor. So while not all comedic Web series will make you chuckle, there are still a ton of shows online that will have you laughing so hard it hurts. These are just a few of the best comedy Web series you can find online:

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Former DAILY SHOW correspondent Rob Corddry stars in this parody of popular hospital shows. His character, Dr. Blake Downs, wears scary clown make-up and bloody scrubs. So many people loved this series it got picked up by Adult Swim.

THE GUILD
A group of socially incompetent World of Warcraft addicts take on their biggest challenge: friendship. This series chronicles their quest to forge meaningful relationships despite their complete inability to do so. Too bad real life doesn’t have cheat codes.

ASK A NINJA
A supposed ninja takes questions from viewers about the secret world of ninjas. From “what do ninjas think of beards?” to “why have you allowed the cast of The Jersey Shore to live?”, Ask a Ninja is not afraid to give us what we need to know!

THE NOSTALGIA CRITIC
A sarcastic film buff pokes fun at movies and television shows from the 80s and 90s. No plot whole is safe, and no ridiculous scene goes un-mocked. Fans of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 will love this series’ irreverent criticism and wit.

ELEVATOR
In the elevator of a fictional office building, colorful characters come together to produce hilarious confrontations. Episodes are short, even for web series. The episode HOT CHICK ZONE DEFENSE is only 25 seconds long, but Elevator proves that good comedy doesn’t even need half a second to be successful. If every elevator ride were this funny, no one would ever take the stairs again.

JAKE AND AMIR
Sketches about two writers at College Humor as they bicker their way through outrageous situations. Its humor comes from the shortcomings of its lovably shallow characters, making the dialogue sound a lot like IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA.

AUTO-TUNE THE NEWS
Musical group The Gregory Brothers uses Auto-Tune to make television news reports musical, then sing along themselves to turn ordinary news stories into hysterical songs. The rhymes are spectacularly cheesy, such as “Surely you jest! I’m under cardiac arrest.” After watching Auto-Tune the News, you will never be able to watch the news without imagining the anchors singing.
