Our 2011 GOLDEN GLOBES Predictions: Who Will and Should Win

In anticipation of tonight’s 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards (8PM on NBC, CTV in Canada) theTVaddict.com is proud [or not-so-proud depending on how things turn out] to once again present our GUARANTEED GOLDEN GLOBE WINNERS 2011*

Best Television Series – Drama
BOARDWALK EMPIRE
DEXTER
THE GOOD WIFE
MAD MEN
THE WALKING DEAD

Should Win: THE WALKING DEAD
After back-to-back-to-back wins for MAD MAN, we for one would welcome a little fresh blood. Particularly if it’s of the zombie variety.

Will Win: BOARDWALK EMPIRE
Just in case the talented ensemble and off-the-charts production values weren’t enough of an incentive for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association [HFPA] to single out HBO’s newest series — having Martin Scorsese — last year’s recipient of the HFPA’s Cecil B. DeMille Award as one of the show’s producers should pretty much seal the deal.

Best Television Series – Comedy/Musical
30 ROCK
THE BIG BANG THEORY
THE BIG C
GLEE
MODERN FAMILY
NURSE JACKIE

Should Win: MODERN FAMILY
The most consistently laugh-out-loud comedy of the bunch.

Will Win: GLEE
Even though the show has quietly devolved into a virtual parody of itself, the HFPA is not going to want to miss out on an opportunity to celebrate the splashy hit that has become a worldwide phenomenon.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy/Musical
Toni Collette, UNITED STATES OF TARA
Edie Falco, NURSE JACKIE
Tina Fey, 30 ROCK
Laura Linney, THE BIG C
Lea Michele, GLEE

Should Win: Tina Fey
If the measure of an actress up for a best performance in a television series comedy is making us laugh (which, let’s face it, it should be) Tina Fey FTW!

Will Win: Laura Linney
If Kate Winslet’s hilarious guest appearance on Ricky Gervais’ EXTRAS taught us anything, it’s that next to Holocaust survivor, nothing screams award winner like bravely fighting cancer.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy/Musical
Alec Baldwin, 30 ROCK
Steve Carell, THE OFFICE
Thomas Jane, HUNG
Matthew Morrison, GLEE
Jim Parsons, THE BIG BANG THEORY

Should Win: Jim Parsons
Also known as the man solely responsible for elevating what could have easily been another half-baked Chuck Lorre sitcom into honest-to-goodness-must-see-TV.

Will Win: Steve Carrell
Considering Alec Baldwin already has five nominations and three wins to his name, we’re going to go out on a limb here by predicting that the HFPA will be the ones to kick off the Steve Carell “Farewell to THE OFFICE Celebration” in 3… 2… 1…

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama
Julianna Margulies, THE GOOD WIFE
Elizabeth Moss, MAD MEN
Piper Perabo COVERT AFFAIRS
Katey Sagal SONS OF ANARCHY
Kyra Sedgwick, THE CLOSER

Should Win: Katey Sagal
An actress, who if our twitter feed was any indication, gave an absolutely fearless performance in the third season of SONS OF ANARCHY.

Will Win: Kyra Sedgwick
Don’t shoot the messenger.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama
Steve Buscemi, BOARDWALK EMPIRE
Bryan Cranston, BREAKING BAD
Michael C. Hall, DEXTER
Jon Hamm, MAD MEN
Hugh Laurie, HOUSE

Should Win: Jon Hamm
Any heterosexual man who can reject January Jones in a believable fashion is award-worthy in our books. Or, on a more serious note…

Will Win: Jon Hamm
… Whether he’s helping to keep his struggling agency afloat, or navigating the increasingly rocky waters that is his personal life, Hamm continues to knock it out of the park.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Scott Caan, HAWAII FIVE-0
Chris Colfer, GLEE
Chris Noth, THE GOOD WIFE
Eric Stonestreet, MODERN FAMILY
David Strathairn, TEMPLE GRANDIN

Should Win: Eric Stonestreet
And no, we’re not just saying this in a shameless attempt to get the MODERN FAMILY scene-stealer to follow us on twitter. Okay maybe a little

Will Win: Chris Colfer.
It gets better indeed.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Hope Davis, THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP
Jane Lynch, GLEE
Kelly Macdonald, BOARDWALK EMPIRE
Julia Stiles, DEXTER
Sofia Vergara, MODERN FAMILY

Sofia Vergara: MODERN FAMILY
In the hands of virtually any other actress, a beautiful bombshell married to an older man would be a one-note walking cliche that would get tired fast. Luckily Sofia Vergara isn’t any other actress.

Will WIn: Jane Lynch
Despite the fact that we’re pretty confident we would walk away with a Golden Globe had we be given the seemingly never-ending barrage of brilliant one-liners courtesy of GLEE executive producer Ian Brennan, it’s hard to argue with handing out some hardware to Jane Lynch.

Note: Unlike our “above” picks which have been heavily researched, debated and dissected, our picks in the miniseries/TV movie category should be taken with a grain of salt as a result of having failed to see most of the nominees.

Best Miniseries or TV Movie
THE PACIFIC: From Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks comes an uncompromising HBO miniseries with a 150 million dollar price tag. You do the math.

Best Actor in a Mini-Series or TV Movie
Al Pacino, YOU DON’T KNOW JACK: Suffice to say, you don’t know jack about award shows if you think anyone but Al Pacino is going to walk away with this ward.

Best Actress in a Mini-Series or TV Movie
Claire Danes, TEMPLE GRANDIN: In an addendum to our earlier notion that Holocaust and Cancer survivor are as sure a thing as it gets when it comes to Awards season, we’d also like to add Claire Danes, who is bound to walk away a winner thanks to her portrayal of Temple Grandin, a remarkable woman who has given a very public face to the often misunderstood issue of autism.
