Don’t stop believing… the hype will ever end. No really. Just in case airing after the year’s biggest television event wasn’t enough of a lead-in, star Jane Lynch took to the phones yesterday afternoon to talk about Sunday’s post-Super Bowl, in addition to what’s in store for her award-winning small screen alter ego as GLEE kicks off the second half of season two.
Jane Lynch: We’re kind of doing an episode of GLEE that is on steroids. Even though she has kids riding around on BMX bikes and jumping through fire to Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” Sue Sylvester is a little bored with her routine. She wants to top herself, and when she finds out there is a human cannon in town, she buys it with the intent of shooting Brittany out of it. Naturally, Principal Figgins doesn’t allow it, calling it a liability issue, so Sue has a hissy fit, two actually, where she rips rooms apart. Pretty much, Sue Sylvester is on the warpath!
What I love about this show, maybe with the exception of one or two episodes, is that every episode is kind of a big deal. Whether there’s an outrageous song, or moment, I always look forward to getting the scripts. Of course, those shows where we’re doing Britney, Madonna, Sunday’s episode after the Super Bowl, where it’s very special, they’re very fun as well. But I like them all.
Sue suffers a devastating loss with her Cheerios after the Super Bowl episode where she becomes very depressed, kind of kind of dangerously depressed, where she’s more violent than usual. Enter New Directions, who invites Sue to join the Glee Club to get rid of her depression through song. I’m actually in the Glee Club for a while.
Well of course having a sister with Down Syndrome took me completely by surprise. Same with Carol Burnette as my Nazi-Hunter mother which came as a complete surprise. Also, the fact that when I said my mother was a famous Nazi-Hunter, that was true. I like the idea that some of the crazier things Sue has said might be true. Did Sue really smoke out Noriega with special forces? I’m sure we’ll do an episode where an old war buddy of mine comes back and indeed that was true too!
I love the monologue where I talk about the 1968 convention where Mayor Daley punches his wife in the face and the one where loving musical theatre doesn’t make you gay, it just makes you awful. 
GLEE’s post-Super Bowl episode is scheduled to air this Sunday at 10:30PM (EST) on FOX (Global TV in Canada)
