Not a Fan of Reality TV or Reruns? The TV Addict Summer Survival Guide is a Must Read!

The Big Screen
So just why is a TV Addict such as ourselves encouraging you to eschew your small screen for the big one this summer? Well, in a nutshell, it’s where all the TV stars have gone. So much so that rather than take the time to single out each and every one of your favorites that will soon be unspooling at your local multiplex (In 3-D!), we’ll simply list off a few that we’re really, really excited about. Including, Bridesmaids (Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Ellie Kemper, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Jon Hamm), Horrible Bosses, (Jason Batemen. Jennifer Aniston Jason Sudeikis),  The Change-Up (Jason Bateman, Olivia Wilde). Crazy, Stupid, Love (Steve Carell), SUPER 8 (Kyle Chandler), COWBOYS & ALIENS (Olivia Wilde) and GREEN LANTERN (Blake Lively).

Podcasts
Did you know that before he married COUGAR TOWN star Christa Miller, showrunner extraordinaire Bill Lawrence was married to RULES OF ENGAGEMENT’s Megyn Price? Or how about the fact that 70’s SHOW Topher Grace’s real name is actually Christopher? We do! And for that we have Podcasts to thank. What’s more, courtesy of an ever-expanding roster of talented interviewers, actors and comedians such as Adam Carolla, Marc Maron, Kevin Pollak and Chris Hardwick, among others, never before have we had such unprecedented access to an abundance of talent in a long-form and in-depth manner that the four minute daytime/late night talk show no longer affords.

Books
Contrary to what the title of this website might suggest, TV isn’t our only addiction. We’re also a little too into the source of many of the CW’s pilot ideas, you know, books. Suffice it to say, be it of the paper or digital variety, we can’t seem to get enough of them. From lighter fare such as Tina Fey’s Bossypants and Adam Carolla’s In Fifty Years We’ll All Be Chicks, to more salacious and scandalous subject matter like the oral history of ESPN Stories I Only Tell My Friends, the printed word has never been so fun[ny].

DVDs
What’s that you say? You simply can’t fathom a summer completely devoid of the small screen, but not enough to shell out for premium channels such as HBO or Showtime? Lucky for you, we’ve got three letters for you DVD. On our bucket list this summer are BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, SIX FEET UNDER, BREAKING BAD and IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA. What’s on yours?

Summer Cleaning
Admit it. As much as you tried your absolute best to polish off all of your favorite shows before some douchebag over-eager Twitter follower completely spoiled what was supposed to be CASTLE’s “killer” ending (Yes, you know who you are!), odds are fairly good that your DVR/PVR remains dangerously close to full. Which raises the slightly awkward albeit painfully obvious question: With an exciting slew of cable premieres just around the corner, what the heck are you doing sitting here reading this? Get watching!
