Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with DEXTER Star Michael C. Hall

Michael C. Hall is a man of few words. And while it probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the award-winning actor is somewhat tight-lipped when it comes to the subject of what’s in store for America’s favorite serial killer on the upcoming sixth season of DEXTER (Premiering Sunday at 9PM on Showtime, 10PM on TMN in Canada), it should come as even less of one that your very own TV Addict would miss out on any opportunity to shamelessly promote the fact that, yeah, we got to spend a few minutes chatting with Michael C. Hall! See for yourself, after the jump.

With DEXTER kicking off its sixth season tonight, you will have officially surpassed your five seasons spent on SIX FEET UNDER. Does that make it easier, or harder to step back into Dexter’s blood-soaked shoes year after year?
Michael C. Hall: I still enjoy it, but it’s both harder and easier. I never thought that when SIX FEET UNDER ended that I’d play another character for as long, certainly not right on the heels of it and now I’m in the realm of longer so I don’t know what to tell you.

From fatherhood to friendship, past season’s of DEXTER have all seemed to revolve around a theme. With that in mind, what would you saw the theme for season 6 is?
I think it centers on Dexter’s relationship to — if he has one at all — a spiritual life or awareness.

Is it safe to say that Edward James Olmos’ character helps illuminate Dexter’s spiritual life or awareness??
He is one of the characters who does. I think different aspects of Dexter’s journey are brought to life by different characters and different relationships.

Speaking of relationships, Dexter’s relationship with his sister Deb is certainly a unique one. Realistically, how long do you think the show can go before a cop as intelligent as Deb starts to get suspicious and what do you think her reaction might be?
I don’t know. I think it’s beyond suspicion. I think there’s some sort of unconscious knowing that will come into consciousness perhaps at some point. As for her reaction, I’m not going to speculate. The fun of that particular bombshell in what will happen I don’t want to limit it by speculating here.

And finally, putting on your writer’s cap for a moment, is there any particular way you’d like to see Dexter’s journey end, if and when that day comes?
I don’t know. I really don’t know at this point and none of us knows definitively how it ends. We know it will and it’s a question that everyone bats around but I don’t want to say.

DEXTER airs Sunday at 9PM on Showtime (10PM on TMN in Canada) and stars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Lauren Vélez, David Zayas, James Remar, C.S. Lee and Desmond Harrington. Catch up on past episodes you may have missed for free online at clicktowatch.tv
