CASTLE Redux: Stana Katic Dishes on Beckett’s Big Breakthrough

Just how big of an emotional breakthrough did Detective Kate Beckett really have at the tale end of last night’s fantastic episode of CASTLE? Well, rather than irresponsibly speculate ourselves, we figured our far smarter and better looking readers might appreciate hearing from the source of the breakthrough herself, the delightful Stana Katic.

“Since the end of last season what I as the person playing her and I think audiences has learned as well was that Beckett came to realize that she’s always had one foot out of the door in every relationship she’s been engaged in because she hasn’t had closure on her mother’s murder which has always kind of kept her from fulling investing in any relationship,” explained Katic during a recent one on one with the TV Addict. “So I think at the end of ‘Kill Shot’ she makes a choice that she doesn’t want to be defined by her mother’s murders anymore and she does want to dive into a relationship.”

Of course, this being television, or to be more specific, a multi-million dollar episodic enterprise that has built an empire of best-selling books and graphic novels around the crackling chemistry that comes from Castle and Beckett’s will-they-or-won’t-they, Katic was quick to point out that one emotional breakthrough does not a relationship make. Which is to say, a certain shipper-centric segment of the fandom hoping that the upcoming December 5th episode of CASTLE that finds our intrepid heroes cuffed together for an entire hour probably shouldn’t hold their breath.

Teased Katic, “It’s not something you can do overnight, it’s not like, ‘Oh, Okay, Castle, I love you.’ But it does mean that she’s closing that chapter and whether she solves that murder or not, she’s going to lean towards life.”

New episodes of CASTLE airs Mondays at 10PM on ABC (CTV in Canada) and stars Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic, Susan Sullivan, Molly C. Quinn, Jon Huertas, Tamala Jones, Seamus Dever and Penny Johnson. Catch up with past episodes you may have missed for free online at clicktowatch.tv.
