Your First Look at DOCTOR WHO’s Newest Travelling Companion Jenna-Louise Coleman

Earlier this week, the name Jenna-Louise Coleman was immediately turned into a household one thanks to the announcement that she will be the new companion on DOCTOR WHO.  Set to join the venerable eleventh Doctor played by Matt Smith, Coleman will make her first appearance in the Christmas episode of the 7th series which is scheduled to air later this year. Best known for her work in Captain America: The First Avenger, Emmerdale, Waterloo Road and the upcoming ABC miniseries TITANIC, the actress is not surprisingly, thrilled to be joining the Who-verse, stating, “I’m beyond excited, I can’t wait to get cracking; working alongside Matt I know is going to be enormous fun and a huge adventure.”

Jenna replaces fan-favorites Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, who play Amy Pond and Rory Williams on DOCTOR WHO.  Showrunner Steven Moffat foreshadowed the Ponds departure as being “a heartbreaking departure after one final series of roller-coaster voyages,” and Jenna’s character will be introduced on the heels of this season’s dramatic turn.  Steven Moffat described the transition of companions as, “It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together we knew we had our girl. She’s funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the TARDIS. It’s not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it’s about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that’s all you’re getting for now. Who she’s playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor’s standards, this isn’t your usual boy meets girl.”
