Buzzing About… HAPPY ENDINGS

Miss last night’s episode? Here’s what you need to know about HAPPY ENDINGS’ “Big White Lies”

AIRDATE: 3/28/12 WRITER:: Gail Lerner DIRECTOR: Gail Mancuso SYNOPSIS: In an effort to avoid spending time, specifically tea with an annoying childhood friend (guest star Mary Elizabeth Ellis), Penny takes a page from her lie-ble. Enter an elaborate lie that quickly spirals out of control and results in Alex having to pretend she’s a lesbian, Dave to feign a life-threatening illness while Jane and Brad are forced to pose as expecting parents-to-be. Adding to the complications is Max and Dave’s attempt to avoid getting evicted from their lovely loft by setting up their lonely landlord (Ben Falcone) with Alex. INTRODUCED: The Trove! A combination trashcan stove that Max concocted as a makeshift replacement for his and Dave’s broken oven. NOTABLE QUOTABLE: “I figure if I’ve gotta be a lesbian I might as well go straight to the top,” was Alex’s advice upon appearing at Jane and Brad’s faux baby-shower dressed as Ellen. LESSON LEARNED: Well, aside from the fact that Alex isn’t just some blonde, she’s a ‘bottle blonde,’ it turns out…. “The only people who can get away with being mean are rockstars or brain surgeons or Mr. Phil,” said Penny in defense of her ridiculously over-the-top scheme to avoid telling childhood friend Daphne Wilson that she’s just not that into her. CRITIQUE: What else can we really say about last night’s episode HAPPY ENDINGS except that it continues to live up to its namesake. Which is to say, nothing caps off a somewhat miserable allergy filled Wednesday punctuated by an evening filled with helping people move (groan!) than 22ish minutes of non-stop laughs peppered with hilarious references to THREE’S COMPANY (Or as Max puts it, “Low stakes classic 80’s sitcom danger”), REVENGE (Said a scheming Max to Penny, “You’re not the only one who’s good at this game… Emily Thorne”) and the Kerkovich’s Serbian roots (Said Jane with regards to the early date of her fake baby shower, “Serbian tradition. We never know when we have to pack up and murder a populace”). GRADE: A
