Buzzing About… HAPPY ENDINGS

Miss last night’s episode? Here’s what you need to know about HAPPY ENDINGS’ “Four Weddings and a Funeral (Minus Three Weddings and One Funeral)”

AIRDATE: 4/04/12 WRITERS:: Josh Bycel and Leila Strachan DIRECTOR: Rob Greenberg SYNOPSIS: As is tradition, HAPPY ENDINGS’ second season ended in the same manner as it’s first, with another wedding. This time, the nuptials of Derrick (Stephen Guarino reprising his role) and Eric (Nate Smith). Unfortunately, despite Derrick’s proclamation that there will be no drama at his wedding (Hence, his motto, “Save the drama for Wilmer Valderrama”), there is plenty of drama to go around. Specifically: Brad struggles to tell Jane that he’s been fired, Dave becomes the object of both Alex and Penny’s affections, while Max must find the courage to perform with his old all-male Madonna cover band. INTRODUCED: Max’s Madonna tribute band Mandonna, which, for the record, is Alex’s third favorite all-male Madonna tribute band after Madonald and Material Earl. NOTABLE QUOTABLE: “I haven’t seen anything that unnecessarily complicated since the third season of LOST, am I right?” was how Jane characterizes Derek and Eric’s upcoming over-the-top wedding save the date. LESSON LEARNED: (1) Dave has never been to a gay wedding. (2) One never wants to get stuck at the “Skype table” at a wedding. And (3) a “quiet Jane” is not only the scariest Jane, but the world’s most dangerous Jane as well! CRITIQUE: While not quite as ah-mazing as last season’s finale, Wednesday night’s second season ender saw HAPPY ENDINGS solidify its case for a much deserved third season by delivering an episode that didn’t just include an astounding array of witty one-liners (Max to Penny, “I am so glad I don’t get invested in your boyfriends of the week who I only hear about through dialogue!”) and sight gags (Yup, still laughing at Jane’s impression of Angelina Jolie’s Oscar pose), but genuinely heartfelt moments as well (See: Jane supporting Brad after he finally confessed to having lost his job and the whole Penny/Dave/Alex love triangle).
