With the Network’s traditional May UpFronts just around the corner, theTVaddict.com thought now might be as good a time as any to take a closer look at the potential fates of your favorite shows.
BODY OF PROOF
You Take the Good: Hovering in and around the 2 million mark in terms of coveted 18-49 viewers, BODY OF PROOF ended a fairly middling season on a ratings high point.
You Take the Bad: Stars Dana Delany and Jeri Ryan deserve so much better than this tedious write-by-numbers procedural.
You Take Them Both and There You Have… Our Prediction: Despite Delany and Ryan’s value on the international market, BODY OF PROOF will not make the cut when ABC announces their new fall slate in mid-May.
COUGAR TOWN
You Take the Good: No cast or creative team in the history of television put more effort into promoting their show’s mid-season return.
You Take the Bad: Based on the disappointing ratings, the only thing the Cul-de-sac crew’s self-funded coast-to-coast media tour accomplished was the draining of co-creator Bill Lawrence’s pocket book.
You Take Them Both and There You Have… Our Prediction: COUGAR TOWN will see a fourth season, assuming it’s content with remaining the Network’s bastard stepchild (Think: Midseason replacement, zero promotional dollars, no respect.)
DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APARTMENT 23
You Take the Good: James Van Der Beek finally found the role he was born to play.
You Take the Bad: The only thing more disturbing than the ratings drop-off following a brand new episode of MODERN FAMILY is the ratings drop-off following a repeat.
You Take Them Both and There You Have… Our Prediction: After an abbreviated first season, ABC will put their trust in the showrunner in APARTMENT 23 (Nahnatchka Khan) by rolling the dice on a second.
GCB
You Take the Good: As a result of an absolutely stellar ensemble and some equally strong scripts, GCB very quickly evolved into so much more than a DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES wannabe. No really. Both heartfelt and hilarious, it’s easily one of the best shows you’re not watching.
You Take the Bad: From offensive to Christians (Which, by the way it’s not) to the erroneous characterization as the DALLAS HOUSEWIVES (again, tune in and see for yourself), GCB hasn’t exactly had the best of luck in the publicity department.
You Take Them Both and There You Have… Our Prediction: While not a likely candidate for renewal, we for one are rooting for a second season if only to see how this series flourishes outside of the women of Wisteria Lane’s shadow.
HAPPY ENDINGS
You Take the Good: A show about nothing hasn’t been this funny since SEINFELD’s heyday.
You Take the Bad: Unlike the ABC produced COUGAR TOWN and LAST MAN STANDING, HAPPY ENDINGS is a Sony Pictures Television property, which may-or-may-not contribute to a not-so-happy-ending come Fall 2012.
You Take Them Both and There You Have… Our Prediction: Since we can’t bring ourselves to even imagine a Kerkovich-free schedule, we’re going to go out on a limb and award HAPPY ENDINGS a third season paired with DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APARTMENT 23.
LAST MAN STANDING
You Take the Good: Much like his eight seasons spent on HOME IMPROVEMENT, Tim Allen’s TV offspring consistently steal the show.
You Take the Bad: The delightful Alexandra Krosney, Molly Ephraim and Kaitlyn Dever are no match when it comes to counter-balancing the unfunny and dated misogynistic humor that creeps in when the show shifts to Allen’s workplace setting.
You Take Them Both and There You Have… Our Prediction: Tim Allen will continue to stand thanks to the Network’s newly found need to develop a multi-cam block of comedies akin to CBS’ Monday night.
MISSING
You Take the Good: Hell hath no fury like a Ashley Judd scorn.
You Take the Bad: “I’m not CIA, I’m a mother looking for my son!!!”
You Take Them Both and There You Have… Our Prediction: Replace “my son” with “a job” and you’ll get an idea of what we’re thinking come Fall 2012.
SCANDAL
You Take the Good: Creator Shonda Rhimes’ first foray outside the confines of a hospital has resulted in a delicious new series that has us genuinely excited to find out what happens next.
You Take the Bad: McDreamy would not be the word we would use to describe SCANDAL’s 6-7 million viewers per week
You Take Them Both and There You Have… Our Prediction: The war isn’t over for these gladiators in suits, but it very well may be delayed until January 2013, so that Shonda Rhimes can spend the Fall focused on ending PRIVATE PRACTICE, launching GILDED LILLYS (Should ABC pick it up) and the crown jewel that is GREY’S ANATOMY.
