In A Nutshell: The hottest address in Manhattan, The Drake, is the kind of apartment complex people are… wait for it… wait for it… dying to get into! Of course, thanks to devilish owner Gavin Doran (Terry O’Quinn) and his wife, Olivia (Vanessa Williams) — not to mention the supernatural forces at play within its walls — residents may regret the bargains they strike in order to hang their hat at the spooktacular homestead.
Names You’ll Know: This one’s chock-full of familiar faces, from O’Quinn (LOST,
HAWAII FIVE-0) and Williams (UGLY BETTY, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) to Robert Buckley (ONE TREE HILL) and Dave Annable (BROTHERS & SISTERS).
What They Say: While shows like AMERICAN HORROR STORY and THE WALKING DEAD are able to be far more graphic than a network show, 666 creator/executive producer David Wilcox has had to take a different route. “We don’t have the tool of gore and blood and that kind of spectacle,” he says. “It’s forced us to be clever.” Clearly, however, he’s feeling pretty confident in the show, as he admits to having already come up with his pitch for Season 2!
What Others Say: Brian Ford Sullivan of TheFutonCritic.com blasts it as having “as ho-hum of a construction as you could ask for considering its theoretically fantastical potential.”
What We Say: Incredibly loosely based on the series of novels by Gabriella Pierce, the show is more low-thrill spook opera than blood-curdling thriller. O’Quinn and Williams are a formidably creepy pair as they preside over the various unspooling storylines, and to its credit, ABC has done an excellent job of not trying to oversell the supernatural elements. All in all, it looks like it could be a fun way to spend the final primetime hour on a Sunday night, especially coming as it does on the heels of ONCE UPON A TIME and REVENGE. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more solidly-themed block of programming on any network’s slate this fall.
