When Seth Meyers joined the cast of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE back in 2001, he didn’t really become a household name. He didn’t have any specific sketch or character he was known for, that is until 2005. In 2005 the future LATE NIGHT host became the co-anchor to one of the most memorable Weekend Update teams in SNL history. Meyers and long time pal Amy Poehler took the Update desk with power and confidence, and their performance as the news-spouting duo took America by storm.
Meyers didn’t just make the move behind the desk, he also made the move behind the scenes, Meyers became SNL’s head writer in 2006. Writing a majority of SNL’s Presidential sketches, the most notable being the cold open where Tina Fey portrays Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler as Hilary Clinton, where Fey says the quotable line “I can see Russia from my house.”
Jimmy Fallon announced that he was taking over for Jay Leno, and a lot of people were concerned about how Fallon would handle the big move, what was next for Leno, and the question Seth was about to answer, who‘s taking over LATE NIGHT? As a fan of SNL and a fan of LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON, I was both relieved and excited that Meyers announced he would be the one taking over. Not only does he have the wit and stage presence of a LATE NIGHT host, but also has the likable factor and the average guy appeal.
LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS premieres on NBC February 24th I personally can’t wait! Seth has always been a favorite of mine, to me, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE is the greatest show on television, and the most influential program being produced today, as well as the last thirty eight years. Seth is good at what he does, he’s smart, and he’s got a great support team. I think his shows going to be a huge success, I’m sure it will be so big that Stefon might even recommend it as one of late night’s hottest shows!
