Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Reasons Why You Should Still Be Watching MODERN FAMILY

modern family cast

While MODERN FAMILY may no longer be the ratings powerhouse or awards juggernaut it once was, the hit ABC comedy still remains one of the highlights of our viewing week. Five reasons why can be found after the jump.

It’s arguably the best comedy on television right now, MODERN FAMILY is both game changing and hysterical. The unique thing about the show is it didn’t need that “awkward first season” that most shows need to really take off. Shows like SEINFELD and PARKS AND RECREATION really didn’t have huge followings during their first seasons, or a lot of support and praise from critics. In MODERN FAMILY’s case it’s the complete opposite. The Steven Levitan hit received praise and a HUGE following since day one, and shows no signs of slowing down.

Characters! This show has some of the strongest, funniest, and most outrageous yet relatable characters on television. From Claire’s (Julie Bowen) over protective parenting to Cam’s (Eric Stonestreet) over the top costumes for Lily. The show has these characters that you just buy into and want more from. You don’t feel like you’re watching this elaborate performance, but instead sitting down and watching your neighbors or relatives. The casting is brilliant and so on point and is what absolutely drives the show; Ty Burrell’s portrayal of Phil Dunphy is just perfect, and so entertaining to watch.

The sassy, smart aleck, adorable Lily. (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) With lines such as “Do you want me to call you a wah-mbulance” and “Sometime’s when you read to me I pretend to fall asleep so you’ll go away?” For a 6 year old she is far more advanced than actors 20 years older than her. I think Lily drives the show in some ways; her little quick one-line jokes that close off a scene are so great and hilarious.

The “Caught In The Act” episode. If you have never seen an episode of the Emmy winning show before this is the one to start with. I have never in my life laughed through an entire episode of a show, until the night that episode aired. From the opening teaser to the final scene, the jokes never wavered. The scene where Alex (Ariel Winters) washes her eyes out with water and says, “I can still see it.” I was gasping for air I was laughing so hard. If I could recommend any episode of any show to someone that would be the episode I recommend. That episode is why I love television.

The writing and production value is beyond incredible. There is a reason MODERN FAMILY wins every award ever! It’s because the talent of the cast is mirrored with the talent of the crew, writers, and producers. For a while it felt like television was missing that family feel. The feeling you got when you watched shows like FULL HOUSE, or THE COSBY SHOW growing up, but this show brought that back. It brought back that family TV aspect that is extremely rare on today’s television shows. Most TV families today feel sort of forced and don’t really have that chemistry that you buy it. That’s not the case with MODERN FAMILY, they feel like such a real family, you almost forget they aren’t! The story lines on the show also drive the amazing characters. The problems they go through are so realistic and relative to so many people of so many different ages. MODERN FAMILY is already a classic, while in it’s fifth season, it shows no signs of slowing down.
