Witches taking the upper hand in the war against the vamps. Werewolves dancing it up in the bayou. Hexes flying about. The Original family in peril while Elijah makes the choice on who lives or dies……sheesh, things get heated down in the French Quarter. Team Celeste crashed down on the vampires in last night’s episode “Crescent City” of THE ORIGINALS and they aren’t holding back any punches. Casualties are piling up, including [SPOILER ALERT] one of the witches own, Sophie Deveraux. Considering it was a super creepy and unexpectedly resurrected witch that did the killing, will the vampires mourn the loss or is that just one witch down, a coven to go?

We just HAVE to know what’s coming up on THE ORIGINALS. Luckily, we got executive producer Julie Plec to sit down and give us some extra juicy scoop on where we go from here, including tasty Elijah/Hayley gossip, insight into the teen witch back from the dead Monique and what we’ll see in those fun flashback episodes.

WHERE are our Originals? “The next episode is actually really crazy. It’s something we’ve never done before. We go outside of the Quarter and we put Klaus and Rebekah in a creepy, horrible, messed up sanitarium from back in the day. Genevieve enacts her revenge and we learn exactly what she’s going to do to make Rebekah suffer as much as possible.”

So what exactly is the deal with Monique? “I think you have to look at her both as a villain and a victim. She was in this limbo state with what seems like direct access to a lot of angry ancestors, who are very unflinching in their faith. Either she’s a zealot who’s a product of her environment or she’s a little bit kooky. [laughs] She’s probably a little bit of both.”

Hey, Jackson was a nice treat. Is he coming back? “Yummy, right? [laughs] There won’t be another be another full moon for another few episodes but this is our first taste of the Crescent wolves. The final chapter of the season definitely brings the werewolves to the front of the line.”

Seems like Hayley will have her work cut out for her to end the curse on the Crescent wolves. “It’s going to be driving her forward a lot. She’s going to be very determined to free them and then ultimately, then there’s the whole ‘Well, who’s my real family? Where do I belong the most?’ Her draw to Elijah is very alluring and very forbidden, so we’ll see if she decides to stick around the Quarter or head out to the bayou.”

Any tidbits on how Elijah might react to Hayley’s wolf buddies, especially hottie Jackson? “I don’t think he’s going to be very happy about it. [laughs] Just the idea of her attention falling to these people, her family bond, drawing her towards them and away from the Originals is a lot for Elijah to handle.”

Poor Father Kieran. Hexes seem like nasty business. What will happen? “It’s not pretty. We saw what happened to Sean, his nephew, in the past. It’s definitely not going to be an easy thing to overcome. You wonder what is reversible and what isn’t. It won’t just be wrapped up in one episode.”

Can we get some more flashback episodes, please? “Oh yeah. We’re in our 1919 chapter with the reveal last week with Papa Tunde and we learned Marcel and Rebekah conspired to bring Michael to town. There’s a lot more story to be told about what happened in 1919. Next episode, in the sanatorium, we definitely get a flavor of New Orleans at the end of the influenza epidemic of 1919.”

What about cutie-turned-deserter vampire Thierry? “We have not seen the last of Thierry. He’s now living on the outskirts and he might come in handy to one of our characters someday soon.”
