DROP DEAD DIVA Preview: How Hard Can A First Date Really Be?

drop dead diva cast

When devoted fans first began watching DROP DEAD DIVA, there was not much time to get to know Deb Dobkins (Brooke D’Orsay) and Grayson Kent (Jackson Hurst) as a couple. Deb was unfortunately killed in a car accident right away and her soul returned into the body of Jane Bingham (Brooke Elliott), a co-worker of Grayson.

The subsequent five seasons provided some fertile comedy and lots of laughs watching Deb, now known as Jane, acclimate to a new body, a new job and a new lifestyle – one where she and Grayson were just friends because he did not know her true identity. There was much love and comedy between the two, as Grayson never truly knew that Deb was still with him and was by his side nearly every day.

But in the Season 6 premiere, Jane finally confessed to Grayson that she was Deb. At first, Grayson was unable to process this revelation and then once the reality of this impossibility set in, Grayson was angry that Jane had never told him the truth; that she had told her best friend Stacy (April Bowlby), but not her own fiancé. To have deceived him for so many years while he grieved for the woman he thought he had lost was just one more betrayal. It forced Jane to take a long inner look at her motivations for not telling Grayson sooner. To her chagrin, she was simply embarrassed and believed that Grayson could not love her in the new body she occupied.

So this season is the beginning of a journey to see if indeed Grayson and Jane are soulmates. In addition, can they both get around the years of deception and the insecurities that Jane feels?

In this week’s episode “First Date,” Jane and Grayson take the next step to see if that spark between them is still there. They have always loved each other, but does loving your soulmate mean you love them truly as they are when they stand before you? And can they get past the history that kept them separate for these past five years?

In true DROP DEAD DIVA fashion there will be no easy answer and there is sure to be a bit of comedy that keeps things hopping while they rediscover what they mean to each other. But with the help of an eager angel, Paul (Justin Deeley) and a zealous assistant Teri (Margaret Cho) and a loving best friend Stacy, there just may be a chance at rekindling the love spark. There may also be a gentle nudge from rock star Rick Springfield who also guest stars in this week’s episode.

To see how hilariously the “First Date” episode goes, be sure to tune in for an all new episode of DROP DEAD DIVA on Sunday, March 30th at 9:00 p.m. on Lifetime.
