THE 100 Preview: “Contents Under Pressure” (Raven, Groctavia and Repercussions Oh My!)

the 100 Contents Under Pressure

In this week’s new episode of the CW series THE 100, it is all about dealing with the repercussions of the hard choices made by the kids on Earth and the adults on the Ark; as both groups have risked or taken lives and the fall-out from that sends ripple-effects throughout both worlds.

When we last saw the kids on Earth, Bellamy (Bob Morley), Clarke (Eliza Taylor), Jasper (Devon Bostick) and Finn (Thomas McDonell) had gone to rescue Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos), who was being held chained up by a Grounder. But in the process, Finn took a knife to the chest and his odds of making it are slim at best without the resources on the Ark.

Then on the Ark, Chancellors Jaha (Isaiah Washington), Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) and Abby (Paige Turco) are still recovering from the deaths of the 320 who volunteered in order to extend the oxygen supply — for the rocket flares sent up from Earth were seen too late.

Neither place is the most desirable locale to be in right now. One offers poisonous fog and an hostile indigenous population; the other offers a slow death by oxygen depravation and the worry than any small infraction could result in being floated.

So what does this week’s episode “Contents Under Pressure” have to offer? First, there’s Raven (Lindsey Morgan). Now safely on Earth and reunited with her love, Finn, Raven will do everything in her power to save his life. So repairing that blast radio that Bellamy tried to destroy is top of her list.

Second, Raven has to work closely with Clarke to save Finn’s life. Clarke’s mom Abby may be the doctor, but that doesn’t mean Clarke doesn’t know a thing or two about helping out the sick and injured. Though Finn’s knife wound is a bit more dangerous and closer to death than she normally would be asked to treat. So as the kids race against the clock to save Finn’s life, they take extraordinary measures to do everything they can. For Raven, it’s fix the radio and establish contact with the Ark. For Clarke, it is offering the best medical care she can provide with limited resources.

And for Bellamy, well, he’s gone even a bit further and decides to seek out some intel from the Grounder (Ricky Whittle) they captured when rescuing Octavia. The guy may not even speak, but it is clear from his actions, he really likes Octavia. (In fact, creator Jason Rothenberg coined the new ship for that pairing of Grounder and Octavia as “Groctavia”.) Bellamy may not be as angry as if it were his sister’s life hanging in the balance, but he certainly holds a grudge for all the other kids’ lives that were lost in the recent Grounders’ attack. So pity that Grounder as his silence only leads to more tough choices on what to do with him.

With 92 lives remaining (including Bellamy and Raven), that is a lot of people for Bellamy to try to keep safe. Worse yet, there’s a hurricane approaching. Bless this new Earth and its unpredictable weather. The timing could not be worse.

So it will be a race to save Finn, ride out the hurricane and determine if the Grounder can be communicated with in order to get the information they need.

Life on the Ark is not much more pleasant with a potential uprising as people find out that the 320 lives may not have had to have been sacrificed. Kane and Jaha will have some explaining to do in light of that revelation. And a new power player will step forward to challenge them and then offer some surprising assistance to quell the rising emotions from the families grieving over their losses. As for Abby, her fate is up in the air given all her recent crimes — each alone which warrants the death sentence.

So to find out if Finn and Abby survive to fight another day, be sure to tune in for an all new episode of THE 100 on Wednesday, April 30th at 9:00 p.m. on the CW. Everyone is going to surprise you.
