I have to admit when I saw the ad for PLAYING HOUSE in my issue of Entertainment Weekly I wasn’t too interested. I thought it looked like it could be a good show but I didn’t think I would love it. I wish I could say that I didn’t laugh throughout the entire Pilot. Or that I didn’t absolutely adore the shows two stars, Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair. But I can’t say either of those things because truth is, I loved the show. PLAYING HOUSE is so witty and so fresh, the writing on the show is fantastic. Is it too early to say I’m completely hooked?
The pilot did everything a good pilot should do. It made you feel for for characters that you’ve just met and made you want to learn more about them. I want to know what Magie is going to do now that she has to raise this child on her own. And I want to know how Emma is going to survive without work and with all of these casual run-ins with her ex.
This series shows so much potential, I can’t wait to see what happens to these two week after week! I rarely love a show this much just from the first couple of episodes but this show is something different and very, very special. The second episode where they go over bird bones’s house is just so great. How they make her confront her hoarding issues and how she casually breaks bones in her body because she is so tiny. I never stopped laughing!
USA Network has an incredible show on their hands, I hope they recognize that and give it the recognition it deserves. Is it too late to vote for Lennon and Jessica to both get Emmy noms this year? Can I start campaigning for that?
When you think strong female comedy duo’s you think Lucy and Ethel, Laverne and Shirley, Tina and Amy, and now after watching PLAYING HOUSE it’s safe to say we can add Jessica and Lennon to that list.
