For Canadian Eyes Only: Shaw Media Unveils 2014 Fall Schedule

Press Release: Today, Shaw Media announced Global’s epic 2014/2015 fall schedule.

Building on last year’s red-hot momentum with new series The Blacklist, Chicago PD and Sleepy Hollow, the network is adding eight new high-octane dramas to bolster its already sizzling lineup. Audiences will obsess over the new psychological thriller Stalker starring Maggie Q (Nikita) and Golden Globe Award winner Dylan McDermott (The Practice). Also sure to build a massive following is the much-anticipated drama Madam Secretary, starring Téa Leoni (The Naked Truth) in a show-stopping performance as the newly appointed U.S. Secretary of State. Coupled with the return of the hugely popular drama The Good Wife, now in simulcast, the network brings two hours of back-to-back sophisticated and gripping dramas to viewers. The drama continues when Global takes audiences on the mystery ride of the season with Gracepoint, the richly layered series starring David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch), Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad) and Nick Nolte (Warrior), as well as State of Affairs, which sees Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) in her highly anticipated return to TV as a CIA analyst who navigates political minefields in this high-octane thriller from writer/director Joe Carnahan (The Blacklist).

Based on the wildly popular comic book series Hellblazer from DC Comics, Constantine will join Global’s schedule this fall starring Matt Ryan (Criminal Minds) and Lucy Griffiths (True Blood). Co-written by The Mentalist’s Daniel Cerone and The Dark Knight’s David Goyer, the series will adapt the comic about a man-turned-supernatural detective. And building on its massively successful NCIS franchise, the network will welcome a new crop of special agents with the addition of NCIS: New Orleans.

“Boasting two of last fall’s biggest new shows The Blacklist and Sleepy Hollow, the unstoppable and ever-growing NCIS franchise, plus a slate of new heavyweights, Global is Canada’s drama destination,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, Shaw Media. “Packing in political intrigue, mystery and star-power, our network’s eight new dramas feel right at home in the schedule, in total delivering 14.5 hours of simulcast programming.”

Global is pairing its slate of powerhouse dramas with a number of new comedy series. Starting this summer, Global delivers viewers non-stop hilarity with its comedy lineup beginning with Partners, led by dynamic duo Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) and Martin Lawrence (Bad Boys). One of fall’s most buzzed about romantic comedies A to Z follows the story of Andrew (Ben Feldman, Mad Men) and Zelda (Cristin Milioti, How I Met Your Mother) – a pair that almost wasn’t – on their rocky romantic road fuelled by a clash between fate and chance. Faced with a proposal gone awry and a string of unfortunate coincidences Marry Me’s Annie (Casey Wilson, Happy Endings) and Jake (Ken Marino, Eastbound and Down) are destined to be together whether they can get it together or not. From executive producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and starring Kate Walsh, Bad Judge is a sexy new comedy about a judge who always plays by her own rulings. From Emmy Award-winning writer and comedian John Mulaney (Saturday Night Live), Mulaney is a multi-camera ensemble comedy series about a rising stand-up comic. Plus, the heart-warming coming-of-age story About a Boy starring Minnie Driver returns.

Global is gearing up for a monster mid-season lineup featuring ratings powerhouse Big Brother Canada. Following a sophomore season that knocked out the competition, becoming the #1 specialty reality program of the year in key demos – for the second year in a row – #BBCAN3 brings a fan-favourite format to a bigger platform. This season’s finale scored big, beating NHL hockey playoffs, and BigBrotherCanada.ca saw fan-engagement at an all-time high, earning 46 million page views this year. Big Brother Canada brings savvy socializers, strategists and plenty of showmance to Global’s stellar slate of reality programming.

The network also sees the return of the breakout Canadian drama Remedy starring Enrico Colantoni, Sara Canning, Dillon Casey and Sarah Allen, as well as the return of long-running ratings juggernaut Rookie Blue.

Two new shows join the mid-season schedule: Heroes Reborn, the saga behind the 2006 breakout hit Heroes which will return to Global with a 13-episode run; as well as The Dovekeepers, a Mark Burnett produced four-hour miniseries based on Alice Hoffman’s historical novel of the same name.
