Can We Talk About Tatiana Maslany?!

After weeks of debating what show on my “Must Watch List” I was going to start binging I finally settled on ORPHAN BLACK. I’d heard such great things about the show and about the shows lead that I had to start it. I watched the Pilot late at night on Sunday and am both ashamed and proud to say I’m already half way through season 2. (It’s only Wednesday) I had no idea how addicting and fascinating this show would be. I was instantly engulfed in this intense and insane story of Sarah Manning and the discovery of her clones.

But now lets talk about Tatiana! WHAT! Who are you? How are you that talented? While watching the show I had to pause it a couple of times because I could not believe that one person was portraying all of these characters. The way she mastered each and every quirk of all of the clones. The way Cosima moves her hands a certain way when she is explaining something or how she gets giddy when she is talking about a DNA sequence. How Alison always has to stand with perfect posture and how her hair can never leave that perfect up due she’s always sporting, or Sarah’s tough and rugged demeanor. But the one character that Maslany plays that just blows me away is Helena. The way she attacks food like she is a wild animal and her inability to show love even though she feels it for people. I’m so in awe of every character portrayed on this show, and the fact that one person is playing them is just astonishing to me.

The end of every episode leaves you wanting more and you have no choice (if you’re binge watching like me) but to play the next episode. Not many shows can hook an audience that intensely but ORPHAN BLACK has done it. I would watch a spinoff on any of these characters. They are all so individually intriguing and wonderful and flawed that I would be in awe of a show based off any of them.

I know that voting has closed for Emmy nominations but if she is nominated (She absolutely better be) I truly think she should win. Maslany portrays so many incredibly strong and complex character on this show and she plays them all with such ease. I think whomever they nominate will be brilliant and very deserving of an Emmy, but I can’t picture anyone besides Maslany winning the top honor.
