Paola Andino stars as Emma Alonso on the hit Nickelodeon series, EVERY WITCH WAY. I spoke with Paola about her favorite famous witches, what’s in store this season at “EWW” and her favorite memory from the set.
Are there any challenges to playing a character that is around your age?
Paola Andino: For me, it is actually very helpful playing a character that is around my age because a lot of the situations Emma goes through, excluding getting into trouble with magic, are relatable to me since they are common high school experiences.
What has been your favorite memory from the show so far?
I make my favorite memories on the show when I get to film with the whole cast, because we laugh the most when we are all together but we don’t get many scenes like that. I made one of my favorite memories from season 2 while filming a sleepover scene with the majority of the cast. The girls are all having a slumber party and it all goes wrong when the boys crash the party and the lights go out. It was a high-energy scene with a lot of screaming and we got great laughs out of it while watching the playback.
Who are some of your favorite famous TV/ Film wizards and witches?
I was a big fan of Wizards of Waverly Place while it was on and I loved Alex, Selena Gomez’s character. On the other hand, ever since I was really young I loved The Wizard of Oz. My favorite witch in that film would have to be Glinda, the good witch; not just because she helped Dorothy but her sparkly, pink dress was also adorable.
What can you tell us about the second season premiere?
The second season is filled with so much more magic, trouble, and love. There are new characters, like the school’s bad boy, Jax, and more trouble that Emma is bound to get herself into. Now that she is the Chosen One, she has a lot more responsibility to take on and crazier dangers to face. This season, because of Jax, she is more willing to try riskier spells that land her in hilarious situations, too.
What episodes are you most excited for fans to see this season?
I don’t want to give away too much, but I am most excited for fans to see the episodes when they really get to see the different sides to Emma besides the sweet and quirky girl they are used to. Once The Fool Moon starts, there is magic in almost every scene. I think the fans will love the special effects.
If Emma could appear on any other show on TV what show could you picture her on?
If Emma could appear on any other TV show, it would have to be Wizards of Waverly Place. Not only because it deals with magic too, but also because her sweet and bubbly personality is a huge contrast to Alex’s intrepid and sarcastic attitude.
