Rachel Brosnahan Previews THE DOVEKEEPERS, Talks HOUSE OF CARDS
*This article contains major HOUSE OF CARDS spoilers
Rachel Brosnahan captivated us with her mesmerizing work in Netflix’s HOUSE OF CARDS and shocked us with her powerful presence in MANHATTAN, tonight we get to see her in an all new light on the CBS two-night miniseries, THE DOVEKEEPERS.
Over the last year Brosnahan has become one of the most promising actors to watch, role after role she keeps delighting us. Brosnahan has such a wonderful career ahead of her and we are privileged to get to watch her grow and perform.
I caught up with the phenomenal young actress about her thoughts on her characters death on HOC, her character Yael in THE DOVEKEEPERS, and what we can look forward to in tonight’s installment of the beloved book’s adaption.
Did you think that Doug would actually kill Rachel?
I definitely saw it coming; it’s a show where no one is safe ever. I was thrilled and surprised that I lasted as long as I did. I think it was the only way Doug (Michael Kelly) could move forward, it had to happen or he couldn’t return to his usual ruthless self. It wasn’t too much of a surprise.
How was your whole experience working on HOC?
It was an absolute dream come true! It was my first job post college and I was only supposed to have five lines or so and it turned into this wonderful, complex, and challenging arc and it was the best job I’ve ever had and maybe will ever have.
THE DOVEKEEPERS premieres tonight! For those who aren’t familiar with the book, what can you tell us about the story of these women?
It’s about three complex and unique women who find each other under this great oppression that they are facing from the Romans. They have escaped from their hometown of Jerusalem and they are living together in the hidden Masada where they are hoping to band together and survive.
What drew you to Yael? What about her story stood out to you?
I was lucky enough to read the book and I thought that she was so incredibly complex and asked a lot of questions that were very unusual for her time. It’s a lot about questioning of faith and coming of age and I thought she was very strong, resilient, pretty badass, she’s fearless and she’s very courageous.
Can you tell us anything about Yael’s relationship with her father?
They have a difficult relationship; Yael’s mother died in childbirth and her father unfortunately blames her quite a bit for that. They have suffered a great loss and unfortunately that’s how he has dealt with it. Clearly she feels an enormous amount of guilt, he has made her feel as though she has committed the greatest sin at birth, which is murder and she will never be forgiven. I won’t give too much away but you definitely see a lot of their relationship explored.
What can you tell us about the first half of the mini series?
You meet the three women, you’ll meet Shirah, (Cote de Pablo) Yael, and Aziza (Kathryn Prescott) you will see them flee their homes. You’ll learn a lot about their back-stories and see them grow together.
You mentioned that you just graduated college as a young actor what have you learned and taken with you with these experiences?
I learn so many new things everyday; I think that’s been the biggest thing. Every time you think you have a handle on something it changes. I’ve learned to remain open; I’ve learned how important my time at school was as well. I don’t think I appreciated nearly as much when I was in school. I’ve learned how important my training has been with creating a foundation for me as an actor. Also how important it is to take big risks and make big moves and to try and not be afraid of the outcome.
What shows are you loving on TV right now?
There are so many good ones out there right now it’s incredible! I’ve been obsessed with ORPHAN BLACK! I came a little late to the party but I’ve been loving it and I cannot wait for the third season to start airing
You can watch Rachel in THE DOVEKEEPERS tonight and tomorrow night at 9:00 EST on CBS.
*I highly recommend you watch Rachel in the GREY’S ANTOMY episode, “The Face of Change.” She is incredibly powerful as Brian Weston and portrays the character with such grace.

This March, your very own TV Addict was afforded the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Israel to learn about the incredible television and technology being created by the little nation that could (Thanks Vibe Israel!). One of the standouts amongst the many many many amazing people and places we experienced was Omri Marcus. We Shine the Spotlight on SATISFACTION Star Stephanie Szostak
Stephanie Szostak stars opposite Matt Passmore in the steamy USA drama SATISFACTION. Szostak plays Grace, a strong, powerful, mother and wife with a dirty secret. Over the course of season one we got to see Grace’s secret unravel before her eyes and watch her roller coaster of a marriage. With season two just around the corner I caught up with Szostak about Neil and Grace’s marriage, seeing more of Simon, and what we can look forward to in season two.
There have been so many intense scenes between Grace and Neil. Are there any that stand out to you as your favorite? How are shooting those scenes with Matt?
My favorite scene between Neil and Grace was in the second episode of season 1. It was filmed in Neil and Grace’s bedroom. He asks her, “Would you lie to me if you knew something would really hurt me?” to which she says “It depends…if I thought you needed to know.” then she goes off to the living room to text Simon, and you see Neil’s face as he sees the text, the pain on his face in that moment. Matt is a professional and very passionate about his craft so those types of scenes are right up his wheelhouse. I feel very lucky to work with him!
?How do you think it will be next season for Grace and Neil? Do you think they can fix their marriage?
I think next season will bring a lot of challenges to their marriage. The truth is going to be revealed, so I think Neil and Grace will need some space from each other in order to process everything. Yet, I hope they can fix their marriage. I think they really love each other. Is their love strong enough for them to forgive each other? Will their love grow stronger or will it break them apart??
Will we see some more of Simon (Blair Redford) next season? Do you think that would be good for Grace?
Oh I am sure we will see a lot more of Simon! I heard we will delve deeper into the world of escorts and explore what women and men get out of it. As for Grace, I think she needs to stay far away from that man!
?What else can we look forward to in season two?
A sexier, more provocative version of what the show was last year. A faster pace with big story twists and exciting surprises!
Aside from SATISFACTION, what shows are you loving on TV right now?
There are so many good TV shows right now. The ones I’m currently watching are EPISODES (I love this show, check it out if you haven’t!), TOGETHERNESS, THE AFFAIR, HOUSE OF CARDS, and I hope Larry David brings back another season of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM.
You can watch Stephanie in the second season of SATISFACTION when it returns this summer on USA Network.

We Shine the Spotlight on LIV AND MADDIE Star Jessica Marie Garcia
Jessica Marie Garcia stars as Willow on the Disney Channel hit, LIV AND MADDIE. I caught up with the talented young actress about what’s next with her character, what scenes she is excited for this season, and her favorite moments working on the show.
What stood out to you about Willow? What made you want to audition for the role?
I am from Orlando, so Disney is in my blood! Being a part of a Disney Channel show has been a dream of mine for forever. When I got the audition, her name was originally “Princess” so I was excited about auditioning for Disney and even more stoked that this may be the closest I would get to being a “Disney princess”! I fell in love with how the character was strong, athletic, and outspoken. When I got the role, they changed her named to Willow (which I love) and the rest is history! By the way, still waiting to be a Disney Princess.
What can we look forward to with Willow this season?
Willow is in the middle of a lot of fun and drama this season! The audience is going to see Willow try some activities that you wouldn’t think she would try and maybe even have to be the unlikely voice of reason for some of her friends. Stay tuned!
Are there any scenes you’re really excited for the fans to see this season?
Oh yeah! There are some great storylines and plot twists that I can’t wait for our fans to see! I can’t say too much because I have been sworn to secrecy but you will not be disappointed! Just know that it is going to be bigger, louder and more dramatic than last season!
What has been one of your favorite memories from your time on the show? Any specific scenes or episodes in particular?
Filming “Rate-A-Rooney” was the best filming experience I have ever had. Getting to shoot an episode that had such an enormous reaction from our fans was unreal. The episode tackled being bullied and feeling less than because of your looks. Being an overweight kid, I have had my own bouts with bullying so this episode meant the world to me. I am so happy with the way it turned out, and we helped a lot of kids, and I’m so thankful to have been a part of it.
What shows are you loving on TV right now?
I am obsessed with OFF THE BOAT. I think it is so clever and hysterical, and I relate so much. I also love BROAD CITY, a show that is lead by two hilarious and talented women. Where do I sign up?
If you could put Willow on any other show on TV right now which show would it be?
I would love to see Willow on K.C. UNDERCOVER. I think she would make a great spy! Well, only if she can use or find her “inside voice”.
You can watch Jessica on LIV AND MADDIE Sunday’s on Disney Channel.
