THE GOOD WIFE Season 7 Premiere Teasers: Answering to No One

Alicia is finally in charge of her own life again when THE GOOD WIFE returns for its seventh season. She may have lost her law practice and the election for State’s Attorney, but she’s not letting her recent setbacks keep her down.

Canning’s Offer. Given the fact that we know Alicia is off in bond court when the season begins, it shouldn’t come as a shock to learn that she’s not accepting Louise Canning’s offer that they work together (which came in the final seconds of the season 6 finale). Why? Well, for one thing, she thinks he’s “the devil” because she doesn’t like his cases or his defendants. And while he stresses there’s no honor in starting over, she is happy that she doesn’t have to answer to anyone else for the first time in her life. Of course, her decision could change.

Bond Court. Alicia is completely out of her depth in bond court, which is a fast way to earn $135 per client. The three other bar attorneys in attendance ignore her and the judge thinks she’s too wealthy to be taken seriously. When one of the female attorneys asks the judge to let Alicia handle a few of her dockets, she finds it a struggle to get straightforward answers out of the defendants and to handle the speed in which these cases are handled. But since she admits that she hasn’t been able to get a job since the election scandal, she’s determined to stick to it.

Her Own Cases. Outside of bond court, Alicia gets her first big break from a client who saw her website. With Grace acting as her assistant/paralegal, Alicia takes on an inheritance case involving an $8 million painting. It becomes a bit of a farce when she sees David Lee and Diane are representing her client’s sibling on the other side of the courtroom and they introduce an “adhesive expert” to give testimony. Both sides start bringing in more expert witnesses to testify about a fallen post-it note that will determine the outcome of the case and the judge thinks the entire situation is ridiculous.

Campaign Strategy. Alicia calls up Eli to tell him that Peter should run for the Vice Presidency because she doesn’t want to make Peter’s decisions for him. Eli is thrilled and immediately sets out to secure campaign strategist Ruth Eastman in to help. But it turns out that Peter went behind Eli’s back to hire Ruth on his own and wants her to take point in the campaign. Harsh words are exchanged between the two men and one has to wonder whether the rift can be mended.

Cary and Diane’s Firm. While Diane and David argue over how to handle Alicia in court, Cary becomes increasingly disillusioned about the firm he helped start. Now surrounded by the middle-aged partners, he realizes that he misses the company of the young associates and reaches out to them. When he learns that they view the firm as “old” and adverse to progressive ideas, he tries to figure out how to change that.

Don’t miss the season premiere of THE GOOD WIFE on October 4 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
