SUPERGIRL Photos: Question Authority

Tonight on SUPERGIRL, the Girl of Steel temporarily loses her powers, just in time for an earthquake to hit National City.

SUPERGIRL (Melissa Benoist), not one to let a loss of superpowers get in her way, continues to help people, even standing in front of a loaded gun as if she were still invulnerable.

Not the only Danvers sister with chutzpah, Alex (Chyler Leigh) will need all of the intestinal fortitude she can muster when she is trapped in the DEO with Hank (David Harewood) and escaped alien, Jemm, (CONSTANTINE’s Charles Halford).  Knowing that Hank is connected to the presumed death of her father, he is not on her BFF list.

Hard to tell which one to fear more…the red-eyed Hank Henshaw (whom DC Comics readers know as a supervillain) or a totally-red Jemm.

A little history behind Jemm…

In the graphic novels, he is a recurring member of the Justice League and is known as the “Son of Saturn.”  He is from the ringed planet and member of the a race known as “Red Saturnians” which are genetically-modified descendants of the “Green Martians” from Mars.  (Yes, red and green…a holiday theme.)

Upon his arrival on Earth, Jemm teams up with J’onn J’onnz, the Martian Manhunter.  J’onnz is an original member of the Justice League and Green Martian who shapeshifts into the form of a human police detective.

Jemm is Saturnian royalty and joined the forces of Rann who engaged in a war with Thanagar (home of Hawkman and Hawkgirl who were last week on THE FLASH and ARROW).

Jemm’s abilities include super-strength, telepathy, and the ability to discharge psychokinetic energy blasts from the gemstone in his forehead.

Unlike the Martian Manhunter, Jemm cannot shapeshift to appear as human, but he does have the ability to heal from wounds almost immediately, giving him virtual invunerability.

Like the Martian Manhunter, the print version of Jemm is psychologically vunerable to fire, which should make for some interesting situations as the earthquakes rip through Los Angeles…uh, National City…and things start to explode into flames.

SUPERGIRL also stars Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, and Jeremy Jordan.   Recurring cast members Laura Benanti, Peter Facinelli, and Luke Macfarlane also appear in tonight’s episode, “Human For A Day.”

Other guest stars are Ashton Bingham, David Lim, Ayo Sorrells, Stephanie Arcila, Zhuair Haddad, Casey Strand and Bryan Lugo.   “Human For A Day” was written by Yahlin Chang and Ted Sullivan and directed by Larry Teng.

SUPERGIRL has been picked up for a full season by CBS bringing Season 1 to a total of 20 episodes.  Check out the video from Benoist, Leigh and Harewood about the renewal (below).   Also, check out #WhoisHankHenshaw on Twitter to see what the cast, crew and fans are saying.
