SUPERGIRL Sneak Peek: Battle Hymn

There are many ways to defeat an opponent.  Strategy.  Brute force.  Bravery.  Intelligence.  Incentive.  Public relations.  All will be in play this week on SUPERGIRL.

Kara’s evil Kryptonian aunt, Astra (Laura Benanti), returns tonight and tries to manipulate SUPERGIRL (Melissa Benoist) with mind games designed to weaken Kara’s faith in Alura (Kara’s mom and Astra’s twin sister).

Since they are an equal match when it comes to physical strength, could Astra’s strategy give her enough of an edge to defeat the Girl of Steel in a head-to-head brawl?

Alex (Chyler Leigh) and the DEO will be locked in battle with Astra’s henchmen, led by the deadly Commander Gor (Eric Steinberg).  Under-matched in physical strength against their opponents, the DEO team will have to rely on bravery and intelligence in their war against the aliens.

Will the situation eventually force Hank (David Harewood) to tell Alex that he is J’onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter?

Having another alien with superpowers to fight the invading forces would come in handy.  Having lost his own child on Mars, J’onn’s paternal feelings for the Danvers girls may force him to reveal his true self in battle.

Challenges are not limited to the super-front.  Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) is back on the scene.

At one point, Lucy seemed concerned about fiancé James Olsen’s (Mehcad Brooks) relationship with SUPERGIRL.   Will jealousy be incentive for her to consider Kara a rival?  Or will she become a member of Team SUPERGIRL?

Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) is in a battle of her own.  A hacker has made her private emails public, and the ensuing public relations disaster may result in CatCo’s board of directors removing her as CEO.

Then, there is Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli)…entrepreneur billionaire whose motives are still in question.  What does he plan to do and when?

SUPERGIRL also stars Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott.  Guest stars on tonight’s episode, “Hostile Takeover,” are Tristin Mays, Jeannine Cota, Aaron Lustig, Rene Ashton, Chris Vance, Dar Dixon, Casey Strand and Bryan Lugo.

The fabulous Karen Gaviola directed “Hostile Takeover,” which was written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Caitlin Parrish.

SUPERGIRL airs tonight on CBS at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
