THE X-FILES Extended Preview: Spoilers for the Revival Series

THE X-FILES is back! The long-running popular Fox series is returning for a stretch of six new episodes in January 2016, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles. Creator Chris Cooper and other stars from the show will also be making a return appearance. We’ve screened the first episode and it’s compelling and introduces a new angle of the show’s mythology, all the while embracing its own past.

In a new 20 minute extended preview of THE X-FILES, Cooper, Duchovny, Anderson and other key players give fans a taste of what’s to come, including:

-The first and sixth episodes will be mythology episodes, the rest will feature standalone cases. But there will be a through-line in the standalone episodes.

-The first episode will be Mulder focused, while the sixth episode will be more about Scully’s internal struggle.

-One of the standalone episodes will be “funnier than the others,” according to Duchovny.

-The through-line will be about Mulder and Scully confronting their age and life choices (including them giving up their son, William).

-In the last 7 or 8 years since we saw Mulder and Scully, their relationship will have ended, but Anderson says that we’ll see them in a similar dynamic as before.

-It’s a very different world today than it was when the show first ended in 2002 and THE X-FILES will tell stories from this new perspective.

-Joel McHale’s Ted O’Malley will be playing a conservative talk-show host whose ideas on government conspiracy match Mulder’s. He “starts a ball rolling that turns into a boulder”.

-In episode 1, the mythology focuses on a young woman who is an alien abductee.

-The Lone Gunmen will be returning….in cowboy outfits!

THE X-FILES will return January 24, 2016 on Fox.
