“[This show is] about shades. It’s about shades of what’s right and wrong,” says SHADES OF BLUE star Jennifer Lopez. Lopez stars as Harlee Santos, a single mother and detective at the heart of a tight-knit crew of Brooklyn detectives. Lt. Matt Wozniak (Ray Liotta) leads this group and is determined to help keep the streets clean — but he’s also not afraid to step outside of the law to keep the balance. In fact, he has his detectives collect bribes from criminals and other businessmen for protection from the police.
One day the FBI catches Harlee in the act of taking a bribe and they offer her a choice: turn against her colleagues and she’ll be offered immunity, or be arrested and go to prison. But her colleagues — particularly Wozniak — are like family and it’s difficult for Harlee to turn her back on them, even to save her daughter. The situation is made even more complex when Wozniak realizes there’s a mole among his crew and he’s on the hunt for him/her.
