SUPERGIRL Sneak Peeks: Father Doesn’t Know Best

Poor Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan).  Kara/SUPERGIRL (Melissa Benoist) thinks of him as just a “friend.”  James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) hardly considers him a rival.  Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) only knows him as the IT guy wearing an ugly cardigan.

Worst of all, Winn’s dad is notorious supervillain, Toyman.

Toyman has been seen in many incarnations throughout the DC-verse.  On SMALLVILLE, he tried to kill Oliver Queen/Green Arrow.

On the animated series, JUSTICE LEAGUE, Toyman attacks Killer Frost (aka Dr. Caitlyn Snow of THE FLASH) with a killer yo-yo.  (Note:  THE FLASH’s Danielle Panabaker has revealed that Caitlyn’s evil Earth-2 alter-ego, Killer Frost, will be arriving in Central City along with E-2’s Deathstorm played by former Firestorm, Robbie Amell.)

The BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD series featured Toyman as a bank robber.

Regardless of the incarnation, there are 2 consistencies for all versions of Toyman:  He always kills with toys and always has a casual relationship with reality.

Or as Winn puts it, “The day that my father set off a toy bomb and killed half-a-dozen people was the day I stopped being his son.”

Unfortunately for Winn, the senior Schott (guest star Henry Czerny) has escaped from prison and is on his way to National City to see his son, and his arrival signals a potential deadly explosion.  Can SUPERGIRL stop the mad toymaking genius?

Probably, but not before she gets help from a friend and a surprise from her boss.

Hank (David Harewood) morphs into his “real” self, J’onn J’onnz, The Martian Manhunter and gives the Girl of Steel a flying lesson.

Cat invites Lucy (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) in for a job interview at CatCo. Although Cat suggests that she is a dear friend of Lucy’s sister, Lois Lane, Grant’s tone of voice indicates that her job offer extends from cat-tiness.  (Sorry, it was there for the taking.)

How bad would it be for Lucy to work for CatCo?  Remember that Cat still thinks that Kara is SUPERGIRL, and Lucy’s dad, General Sam Lane, has no love lost for visitors from other planets.

And why has Alex (Chyler Leigh) asked J’onn J’onnz, one of those other-worldly visitors, to take on the guise of billionaire Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli) and invade a secure area of Lord Technologies?

Also guest starring on SUPERGIRL tonight are Tristin Mays, Chris Jai Alex, David Salsa, Isaac Keys, Bruno Amato, Kavita Patil, Scott Alan Smith, Emma Caulfield and Hope Lauren.

Yahlin Chang wrote the story for tonight’s episode, “Childish Things,” and Anna Musky-Goldwyn and James DeWille wrote the teleplay.  “Childish Things” was directed by Jamie Babbit.

Check out the sneak peeks below and get ready for more DC villains to make their way to National City.  Silver Banshee, Master Jailer (Jeff Branson of  THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), Indigo (SMALLVILLE’s Laura Vandervoort) and Brainiac are expected to hit town before the end of Season 1!

SUPERGIRL airs on January 18 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
