Clarke made a decision that weighed heavily on her mind in the season finale of THE 100. Choosing to kill everyone inside Mount Weather to save her own people, Clarke now lives with that blood on her hands. And instead of returning to Camp Jaha with the others she opted to strike out on her own.
When we see Clarke again in season 3 she’ll be wandering, with a bounty placed on her head. Her own people and her enemies will be searching for her and she’ll become very linked to the grounders’ story once again. During a visit to the set of THE 100 in Vancouver, Eliza Taylor spoke to journalists about where Clarke is in season 3 and her journey forward.
Living With the Guilt. “She’s pretty messed up over Mount Weather and she obviously left because she wasn’t able to face her demons and wasn’t able to deal with what she’s done, so she’s in a state of pure survival mode. She’s just out in the woods hunting, trying to find somewhere dry to sleep and just trying to survive. I think it’s gong to be a long and hard journey. She’s in a pretty dark place, so I think it’s going to take a lot of time for her to kind of forgive herself and probably for other people to forgive her as well.”
A New Outfit. A photo revealed that Clarke is now looking more and more like a grounder in season 3, so why is this? “Obviously she’s in a state where she kind of needs to blend in and be accepted by the grounders, so she kind of goes all out with the grounders get-up which is really cool. It’s bee so fun for me putting on all those crazy, cool costumes.” Clarke will also be given a new name: Wanheda. “Wanheda essentially means ‘The Death Commander’ because I brought down the mountain. Which is cool! I read that and was like, ‘Ohh! The Commander of Death? Wow!’ So she’s actually kind of feared by most of the grounders, she’s kind of become like this myth or a legend, which is really cool. But [this is all] unbeknownst to Clarke as well until she’s faced with the grounders.”

Is Clarke Aware of the State of The Arkers? Life is flourishing (as much as it can be in a post-apocalyptic world) at Camp Arcadia (formerly: Camp Jaha) when THE 100 returns, but Clarke is unaware of all of it. According to Taylor, “[Clarke is] really isolated. I don’t think she knows what’s going on in Arcadia and that’s been really interesting for me this season, because I used to be just so involved heavily in exactly what was going on, and now I’m just like, ‘What’s up? What’s happening, guys?’ Which is kind of cool. I’ve really been enjoying being on my own journey.”
Will Clarke and Lexa Reconcile? “I think it’s pretty safe to say that since she’s coming back that I’ll be seeing her, but it’s not going to be fun for Clarke at all. I think she’s really torn up about it. I mean, she loved Lexa and she was betrayed so I think it’s going to be a pretty shaky reunion.” But could Clarke move past that betrayal? “I think it’s something that she could potentially [move past]. It’s Clarke — she does have a good heart. But yeah, I think her forgiveness would take a while, if it’s going to happen at all.” Meanwhile, in addition to seeing Lexa, Clarke will be meeting some new people. Zach McGowan’s new character will be with Clarke a lot and Taylor hinted that “they’re definitely going to be fighting each other for a little bit. That’s kind of all I can say.”
Clarke and the Ice Queen. Brenda Strong will have a recurring role as the Ice Queen in season 3 and Taylor hinted that “the Ice Queen is a force to be reckoned with. The Ice Nation has this really bad reputation for not playing by the rules and I suppose in a way, Clarke doesn’t either, so in that way there’s a mutual respect for what they do for their people, but [the Queen is] not the nicest person.”
The Various Tribes. You’re going to see various tribes at the beginning of season 3 and Taylor said that .”The other locations are all really different. Their aesthetic is very different and they’re from very different parts of the world. The great thing about it is when they all come together and they’re all under the commander’s coalition, they have a mutual respect for each other. Whereas I think the vibe I get is outside of that is that they don’t all necessarily get along, especially the Ice Nation. The Ice Nation is just a little bit scary.”
