DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Sneak Peek: Emerald City

It has been said that the IRS brought down Al Capone when the FBI could not.  Tonight, on DC’s, LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz) go after Vandal Savage’s financial assets to lessen his criminal efforts.

Speaking of criminals, two of our favorites, Leonard Snart and Mick Rory, persuade Jax (Franz Drameh) into helping them get back to Central City to purloin a gorgeous emerald.  They are crooks, after all.

Two things can be said about reluctant heroes Captain Cold and Heat Wave, 1) they have fabulous comic timing, and, 2) their portrayers, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, are as hot as Mick’s heat gun.

Carrying the jokes as well as the artillery last week, Miller and Purcell bolstered the fun factor of DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW as Leonard Snart showed his intellect and humanity while snarking at Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) that the better choice for fighting a criminal is another criminal.

Even in the end, when Hawkman apparently has died, Leonard took it personally that one of “his crew” had been offed.  In the clip below, Miller gives some insight into his alter ego’s personality, his predilection for theft and why Leonard’s role in the Snart family has had a profound effect on him as an adult.

Despite his opportunistic tendencies, Leonard Snart may, in fact, one day be a legend.

What of the hero who already is a legend…Hawkman?  When he failed to kill Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) last week, the evil immortal stabbed the flyboy to a seeming death.  Yet, Falk Hentschel (Hawkman/Carter Hall) is listed in upcoming credits for the next several episodes.  Hawkman may be in the midst of the fastest reincarnation yet.

Also in the credits for an arc starting tonight is MR. ROBOT’s Stephanie Corneliussen, slated to play Valentina Vostok.

ARROW fans already may know that Vostok succeeds A.R.G.U.S. head Amanda Waller as the leader of the shadowy government agency, Checkmate, under the codename “White Queen.”   (Academy Award nominee/Emmy winner, Viola Davis, will play Waller in the upcoming feature film, SUICIDE SQUAD.)

Whether tonight’s incarnation of Vostok will be as an officer in the Soviet Air Force from the 1970s, or as Negative Woman, a member of the Doom Patrol, part of the U.S. Secret Service or as the head of Checkmate remains to be seen.  The DC Comics version of Valentina Vostok is a character with an interesting history.

Since Hawkgirl/Kendra (Ciara Renée) was stabbed by Savage last week, the ship could not leave the 1970s making the Soviet Colonel’s story feasible as part of that timeline.  Is Vostok involved in the dangerous mission that is in store for Professor Stein (Victor Garber) and Ray?

Tonight’s episode, “Blood Ties,” was written by Executive Producers Marc Guggenheim and Chris Fedak, and directed by Dermott Downs.

DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. on CBS (U.S.) and at 8:30 p.m. on CTV (Canada).
