DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Sneak Peek: Baby, It’s Cold War Outside

Lovers of MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., I SPY and old James Bond movies, gather ‘round.  There is a definite Cold War spy vibe going on tonight on DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW.

Something that the Legends did during their stay in the 1970s may have altered the timeline of history, causing Vandal Savage (guest star Casper Crump) to relocate to the then-Soviet Union.

For those too young to remember, Russia used to be part of a group of nations that were banded together under the banner “Soviet Union.”  The Soviet leaders then and the current Russian president have some similar ideologies.

Vandal Savage, a man who can get behind the idea of a government run by an oligarchy (as long as he is one of the few holding power), has defected to the Soviet Union.  With Savage behind the Iron Curtain during the early 1980s, the course of the Cold War could change drastically.

To repair the timeline, DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW must break into the Pentagon to find out how to locate Savage.  Things go sideways when Kendra (Ciara Renée) punches a guard.  Hawkgirl’s struggle to refine her powers prompts Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) to ask Sara (Caity Lotz) to train the winged warrior.

In the DC canon, Vostok started out as a colonel in the Soviet Air Force who stole an experimental plane to defect to the United States.  Tonight, Vostok is described as a Soviet scientist who is working on a secret project named Svarog.

Regardless of her profession, Vostok may be in a position to aid the Legends.  Ray (Brandon Routh) dons a tuxedo to approach the beautiful scientist as a kind of “James Bond/physicist hybrid,” but the Bond-effect may not be her cup of vodka.

Shooting and scoring on the Vostok rebound is…Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller).  Yes, the beautiful Russian gives Ray the cold shoulder, warming up to the sexy Snart, instead.

Relationship issues of a different kind are plaguing the Legends.  Stein’s (Victor Garber) nagging is frustrating Jax (Franz Drameh) and puts the success of Firestorm in jeopardy, and the Time Masters want Rip to return to the fold.  If he does, he will be acquitted of all charges, but there seems to be no guarantee for the future of his team.

And what of Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell)?  Russia is a very cold place that could use a little Heatwave.  Rory should relate.  Svarog is the Slavic god of blacksmithing and celestial fire.

DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW also stars Amy Pemberton as the voice of Gideon.  Guest stars tonight are Martin Donovan, Voytek Skrzeta, Mike Li, Charles Singh, Heidi Ford, Jojo Ahenkorah and Fraser Corbett.

Tonight’s episode, “White Knights,” was written by Sarah Nicole Jones & Phil Klemmer and was directed by Antonio Negret.

DC’s LEGENDS OF TOMORROW airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW (U.S.) and at 8:30 p.m. on CTV (Canada).
